With some excellent ideas from fellow SAGA enthusiast Doug Colbeck, I've somewhat created a playable version of SAGA for Caesar's Gallic Wars. I played 8 points per side.
The Roman Army consisted of 1 unit of levys (Greek slingers), 5 units of Legionnaries each with 8 figures(warriors), and 1 Tribune (Warlord).
The Gauls came out shouting with 2 units of Nobles, 4 units of Warriors, and 1 Warlord.
The first clash involved both units of Gallic Nobles running strait into the lines of the Legionarries. Casualties were moderate on both sides, but it was the Gauls who had to disengage first.
A second try by the Gallic nobles and the Warlord produced 7 casualties in one Legion. While the other group of Gallic nobles made the Romans disengage with casualties. Both used fatique markers cancelling each other out.
The right flank of the Romans was secured with massive volleys of stones coming from the Greeks.
But the left started to crumble as 2 Legions were hit simultaneously, one by the Warlord and his Nobles, the other by a group of Warriors.
Both Legions were cut down to 1 man and disengaged. The flank all but vanished and the Gauls called it a day!!!

Beautiful. Great battle report. Romans should not necessarily be highly powered at this scale (skirmish). |

Interesting idea! I've been painting some Gauls for a skirmish game, and just ordered some Roman auxiliaries for them to fight, and I've been wondering what rules to use. Are the battle boards on the internet somewhere? Grelber |

Looks cool. We tried cooking up Saga for the Crusades but had problems with force balance. Saga is an easy game to modify for other periods but hard to fine tune in my opinion. How'd the balance feel with this system? |

@axabrax, I'm not sure. I have to play it a few more times. |

Just noticed the typo, both sides were 6 points each, not 8. Not that it matter for the Romans anyways
