I just had a look at the new US Postal service rates, while the in country stuff is not to bad the international is ridiculous in its raise. first class parcel (1 oz) up $3.55 USD Medium priority flat rate box up $12.00 USD Large Flat rate priority box up $17.00 USD if anyone wants to order something from abroad they had better get it done before Jan 27th when these new rates come into effect

$3.55 USD for one ounce? Note, that'll include letters more than 1/4" thick, if I recall correctly. Perhaps this is how they are going to solve the national debt. Of course, no one will be able to afford to mail things anymore, so look for a TAX on e-mail messages soon

Small Flat Rate boxes are up to $5.80 USD. They also jacked the padded envelops up to $5.95 USD. Where did you get the info on international stuff? I can't find it. I'm gonna need to adjust our shipping prices here soon. |

That is UP 3.55 for 1 ox FCM international. The rate is 6.16 from 3.00 Looks like most of the rates are up $3.50 USD-4.00 per rate band for FCM International. This appears to mimic the chatter I have heard about recent postage changes in the UK and Australia. |

USPS has been mandated by Congress to be a self supporting service for many years. The USPS has not directly received taxpayer-dollars since the early 1980s with the minor exception of subsidies for costs associated with the disabled and overseas voters. see link for the source I quoted. Of course, one must consider the source :) |

from what brigade games says I am thinking it has more to do with the Internationale destination service charging more then it does us needing to charge more here. The USPS is self funding as long as they are not contributing to that silly retirees health fund at the rate of 5 Billion a year. |

You guys all realize the post office has been running a loss for like 75 years continuously, right???? -Kle. |

Yep, the post-service is a money losing enterprise; that hike is just going to stop them from dropping deeper into the red, not put them in the black

Actually, the Flat Rate International Priority Mail "Small Box" rate of $16.95 USD has been that way for just at one year. To those of us with up to a third of business coming from foreign buyers, this is not news. It's also still pretty expensive, and certainly deters customers from buying items that cost less than the postage! And, yes, as unhappy as I am with the high--and sure to go higher--postage rates, I do sympathize with the USPS in that a rapacious Congress indeed extorts a flat $5 USD Billion each year as a one time, immediate fee used for other purposes than delivering the mails. Somewhere, the trigger fingers of the Adams Brothers, Patrick Henry, Ben Franklin, et al, are twitching

Yes, those congress people are bad to have the USPS actually fund their retirement plans, when they don't hold private companies to the same standard. How uncivilized and evil of them

I beleive that private companies aren't forced by congress to fund a retirement plan at a rate designed to ruin them. |

> I beleive that private companies aren't forced by congress to fund a retirement plan at a rate designed to ruin them. If by "them", you mean the company then yes, if by "them" you mean the retirement plan then no. |

Amen, Mako11. Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006 (HR6407). USPS force to fully pre-fund pension for 75 years into the future. No other business or governmental agency has that obligation. Deliberate attempt to destroy the post office so mail service can be fully privatized – even as USPS has to deliver UPS on routes UPS considers "unprofitable". Don't want to go all Blue Fez here but if you want to complain about postal rates, send a letter to your Congresscritter and tell them to get rid of this ridiculous law. |

The "Global Priotity Mail" flat rate envelope now costs $23.95 USD; Obviously, this is a significant jump from $16.95 USD. Some of the Amazon (Book) sellers were commenting on that a couple of weeks ago, I went and deleted all the International Shipping from my Amazon listings except "Expedited." As for Internatioanl FCM (Old small Packet), it harmonizes the USPS with the rest of the world, now we will be paying the base ($3.55) for 1-3 oz, no more per ounce on that kind of package. The cripling $5 USD million is a contribution to pre-fund retiree health care for the next seventy five years. A rediculous requirement, but that is politics. |
