Full time student at University majoring in Ancient History. Broke like most students, but this year I hope to pick up some work doing private tutoring.

I've had one scholarship and an internship.

One more year and I can hopefully get a post-grad government scholarship that I don't have to beg for!

I am not surprised by the summary so far. HMGS did a similar survey many years ago. Education and Government service were high on the list of occupations of the convention attendees.

That's right I'm the pointy haired guy in the Dilbert cartoons. Although I know technology and worked in the trenches I know enough to let my staff do their job and I listen. I'm pretty sure some of the guys would disagree with that of course.

I'm at that point in life where I can buy any miniatures I want but don't have enough time to paint or game. frown

I pretend to work for my employer, and my employer pretends to pay me a decent wage

More seriously, my job is deputy manager of the operations team in one of the academic divisions at a major university in London.

"You what?"

Basically my job involves an ever changing mix of day-to-day building management, managing security access to the buildings I cover, some staff management, managing small lab and office refurbishment projects, overseeing larger building projects, organising routine and emergency servicing of laboratory equipment; advising on and managing health and safety, assisting with some student practical classes, plus anything else that our senior managers decide to throw to our team.

However, when someone asks me what I do, it is usually much quicker and easier to call myself a laboratory manager, even though I do no lab work myself these days.

Shortly nothing.

We are going through that well known successful process whereby you contract out all your IT services you provide to a company offshore that can do it cheaper.

I'm sure the users will not notice and the entire thing will be seemless.

In 12 months I'd like to think I'd be in a lucrative contract fixing the problems but I've a feeling the company will not exist… What do you do with an energy company that has no IT overheads but a very large customer database…?
