A quick rebasing job for a go at Hastings:

These are some old figs, but I don't want to do any repainting:

The grass is a mixture of flocking and Faller landscaping material. It gives more possibilities than tufts; those model railroad folks sure have some interesting ideas…

I like that Faller stuff ..

Muncehead05 Jan 2013 11:52 a.m. PST

That does look good. So you just tear the mat to the sizes of tufts you need?

Caliban05 Jan 2013 12:14 p.m. PST

Yes, that's right, you just rip bits off to the size you want, and the little mats come in different shades too. There's also a load of Noch scenics on the website of the company that supplied the Faller products. Many of these are HO/OO scale, which I think equates to 1/72nd or 20mm, but things like grass and ponds are relatively scale neutral.

Bookmarked and will use those – top tip. Good man!

I like it, but then I am a man who loves a really tufty base. You been drybrushing, too?

Simon

Hi Simon, I didn't bother with drybrushing this time. I just used some cheap brown wood filler, stuck on the tufty type stuff and then dipped the whole lot in flock. I want to get this done quickly – the game is scheduled for Tuesday 15th!

Cheers
Paul

Excellent work!

Thanks, Simon. The rest of the army will be made up from generic early medieval scum. I didn't really intend them to be Saxons as such, because I'm kind of hoping to be able to use them as several flavours. I'll probably use command bases and flags to show which group of scum they are impersonating at any one time. Come to think of it, when I'm finished the rebasing work the ones without big axes could even fill in for Gothic infantry at Chalons. That will save on effort…

Cheers

Hi, Other Simon!

I maybe should have mentioned that these are darker at the roots, which maybe helps them seem more natural. Do let us know if you like them.
