I will probably be painting some 2mm Irregular Miniatures blocks in the near future. Should I undercoat in black and dry brush or should I undercoat in white, use colour washes and then stain?

I'd very much appreciate some advice, and, if possible, links to examples of what you've achieved.

When I did my 2mm phalanxs, I did prime black, block paint, dip. On some, I did dry brush some but there wasn't enough of a difference to scream at me to keep doing it.

Not tried this myself but this looks to give some good results

I did mine (WSS) as black undercoat then heavy drybrush of the base colours, a wash over the base colours then picked out the details and painted all the flags (urgh!).

Worked OK, although obviously with a black undercoat you needed bright colours to start with. The extra wash over the drybrush helped pick out the contrast between the individual figures in the blocks.

I've never had much luck with colour washes over white.

As with 6mm I was careful when doing the hands, faces and hats/helmets, as that is what people tend to see.
