Ok guys need some help, japanese Naval ship colour suggestions, Mal list a mid grey blue colour and black waterline. What blue would you suggest? what colour were the decks, white or natural timber, and funnel pick out points, life boats etc? cheers matt |

The Japanese used pretty much the same color scheme from 1904 through WW II. Mid gray hull, upperworks with black boot topping on funnels. Decks on capital ships were wood in natural color. Older cruisers with wood decks were the same. Newer cruisers and destroyers had red-brown linoleum held down by brass strips about every 3' |

Vallejo color equivalents can be found here. PDF link Short version – hull colors 816 Luftwaffe Uniform blue 900 French Mirage blue 903 Intermediate blue 896 Basalt grey Each of the four IJN shipyards used a different color. Decks were close to a 1:1 mix of 819 Iraqi Sand and White. Yamato class had a cypress deck matching 917 Beige IMO, the first three look more dark than mid blue-grey, while the last is a dark grey. |
