Hi all, Had this idea in my head for a while, as you can tell by the title I'm after suggestions for a Transformers skirmish game. Pretty much covered for vehicle forms – anything from Mechwarrior vehicles through to airfix kits, however I'm really struggling to find suitable miniatures for the robot forms. There are a few MW mechs that will work with minimum fuss and a few of those ZOD mechs might be ok, does anyone have any idea what else I could use? I've tried making my own from duplicate airfix kits and greenstuff but can't quite get the look right
Any suggestions welcome! |

Depends on whether you're going for current Transformers (current set of films) or old school Generation 1 Transformers. (Yes I am a Transformers geek!) If you want old school, then not sure how you can do it easily unless you actually get some of the older figs, but scale will be an issue (not to mention cost). One way might be to pick up a copy of Transformers Risk, so good figures in there. You could try lilformers.com/blog Matt Moylan is a transformers artist and used to have downloadable wallpapers and little cartoon 'standees'. These might work. If you're looking for modern Transformers then I'd have a look round for some of the 'battle' sets that got released. Generally 2 robots in the pack, smaller scale and featuring the main characters from the films. |

Gen 1 all the way. I've still got many of the actual toys but for a skirmish game I'm trying to steer clear of using the actual things hence the search for alternates :-) I'm going to try to cover a few eras – post fall of Cybertron, based on Cybertron – Autobots led by Emirate Xaaron, Decepticons by Lord Straxus – what happened during that spell? So many stories to run through there
Flame and the city of the dead for a start – Zombie TF's!!!! |

If I were doing this, I would use the old Transformer "Decoys" for robot form. They are rubber figs, about 2" tall. Most are pretty reasonable on eBay. (They are old school though). I'd use Matchbox cars and similar stuff for the vehicle forms. |

I have a lot of 20mm Modern troops, and I was looking to add some Transformers for something different in an upcoming game with my local game group. I.E.: the game starts out as an Allied vs. Insurgent game, but then the Transformers come into the picture. I'm using some of the smaller Transformer toys that are about 4-6" tall when transformed
including an MRAP, Fighter Jet, and other vehicles. I just need to come up with some stats and weapons (based on the ruleset I'm using) for the Transformers, and I'll be ready to go. David G. gamerarchitect.blogspot.com |

All I can suggest is 1/100 scale Macross kits. They may not look perfect but they would be fine to represent the robot forms, given the correct colour scheme. There are 1/35 scale Votoms kits out there as well
also Patlabor (1/60), Robotech (1/72)and also the 1/144 Gundam kits. I have mentioned various scales but they would all give the sizes you require. check out this link for ideas: hlj.com Click the sci-fi category and flick through the images or put the names I have given in to the search stream |

What about the titamium series for the x formers? |

Thanks for the suggestions, the Gundam kits at those scales are a lot bigger than I was looking for – trying to keep the mini's around the 1-2 inch height. I did find some bandai 1/400 minis which look as though they'll fit the bill rather nicely though, got a bid in on that evil auction site so will let you know how it goes. I've got a few of the titanium ones but I'm trying to steer clear of proper actual TF characters – would like to create a few of my own and build up a storyline around new characters

These are the G-1 figures that I use. They show up on Ebay. They vary in size but they are about 50 MM tall. (These are not my pics) They take paint very well and they made almost all the coolest G-1 characters

Ahh
Skywarp
my SDCC Titanium Skywarp has pride of place on "The Shelves"
Think I've settled on some of those Gundam Strategy Game figs to use as the robot forms, will use Mechwarrior vehicles for the cybertronian versions of the vehicle modes. Will test paint a ZOD mech as a decepticon and see how it goes. |
