So who's playing? And have you thought up suitable proxy figs for 28mm?

(FYI – I've been keeping the world safe from alien invasion for the last 72 hours. You can thank me later)

My friend has been playing this furiously since around Thanksgiving I think. He seems to be enjoying it. From what he has described, I think that infinity has some figs that would work well.

I think upcoming sedition wars will have some excellent XCOM esque figures

Though I miss the old shenanigans you could pull off from the older xcoms

I understand completely. It's everything I want in a skirmish TTG translated to PC: turn-based, decent graphics, easy learning curve, decent AI, weapon and troop improvements, resource management to ratchet the tension without becoming tedious… Man, it's fun.

Oh yeah…Sedition Wars for the X-Com troops are perfect. Good call.

I've been playing on and off since it came out. It is a true update that provides all of the original game play and atmosphere but updated for todays processors and graphics.

Count me in- snagged it for the 360 (I gave up on PC gaming around 2004-2005ish, after finally realizing that computer upgrades, as regards computer games, was actually an elaborate homage to the 100 Years War), and was very, very pleasantly surprised by just how fun- and how faithful- it was to the original,in so many ways. Factor in that it's structured for DLC, and its potential becomes positively ridiculous.

Dare we hope for entire new campaigns and the like, somewhere down the road?

That said, though, I do still think the original Chrysalids were way creepier.

Just finished the game in Classic Ironman mode yesterday. Bloody good fun. I was able to win a few missions in Impossible difficulty before getting wiped out. Might try again after playing the slingshot DLC.

On Classic Ironman setting, I thought I was toast after having my top squad wiped out halfway through the campaign. I was able to claw it back by using SHIV units to bolster my roster. My squad configuration ended up being: 1 sniper; 1 assault; 1 support; 1 heavy; 2 plasma hover SHIVs.

I would love to see not-xcom figures in 15mm.

The Sectopods look identical to the old Space Crusade chaos dreadnought.

I bought the game a month ago.
After installing the game, I found that it can't run on windows XP. :(

Im thinking of an X box. Agree with Monk that PCs and gaming are an upgrade black hole sucking your money away too often. I tried the demon on my Windows 7 laptop. It was way too slow to play.

Great game, incredible war gaming potential imo.

I think 15mm has the most selection, esp for the previous versions.

Humans:
Various makes, but the new Hasslefree moderns and the Copplestone and EM4 troopers seem the closest for initial troops to me.

Gears of War humans look to have the carapace armor.

GW space marine scouts without helmets or pig iron troopers for the better armored ones.

There is already an update ($6.99) which includes new "skins" and a new plot line. I haven't tried it yet myself, but looks good. It is downloadable from their site.

I've played through it 1.75 times. I stopped when my work load got too heavy to finish the 2nd playthough. I'm also hoping the bugs with the S.H.I.V.s is fixed by the time I start playing again.

Great game, loads of fun and great atmosphere. Very tough at higher difficulty settings.

The Sentient Bean30 Dec 2012 4:11 p.m. PST

Redroom, I started playing the update last night and it is essentially new council missions. You also get a new trooper character that joins your roster. Haven't played many of the new missions yet as I'm stuck on a bastard of a level where you have to activate comms relay boxes on a train. You have a ten turn time limit and spawning enemies up the kyber pass. Thin Men can be very, very deadly. Muons teleport in also. Yikes.

The Sentient Bean30 Dec 2012 4:17 p.m. PST

Oh, and I'm playing on Xbox. Only bugs I've seen are the occasional graphics glitch, I.e. shooting in the opposite direction.

Also, sometimes the game will freeze at loading screens, requiring a reboot. Haven't had that prob before on Xbox.

BrotherSevej30 Dec 2012 6:39 p.m. PST

I am hoping THW makes a ruleset for this one. I mean… THW play style is like a perfect fit for XCOM.

goragrad30 Dec 2012 9:40 p.m. PST

Brother just picked it up at Christmas, will see what he has to say when he gets back next week.
