Hi,can anyone give me any idea what colour diffrent nations carriages where ? I've only found 2 refrences both regarding French one given as red the other as blue ,so any help would be gratfully accepted

Summary from various posts, various sites:

France - deep red,

Russia - brick red,

Austria - ochre,

Saxony - black,

Prussia - mid blue,

Bavaria - grey,

Wurttemburg - natural wood,

Hanover - red,

Hesse-Kassell - grey or blue,

Brunswick - grey or red,

Sweden - sea blue,

Denmark - red,

United Provinces - dark blue,

Britain - dull red.

There was a lengthy discussion of British ordnance colors in the WSS on the Lace Wars group on Yahoo recently. The opinion there seemed to attribute the same blue-gray they used in other periods and that the red color was an aberration of the ECW/Commonwealth period.

Malbrook is correct. British gun carriages in the WSS were grey not red. This is shown particluarly on the fine series of tapestries depicting the Duke of Marlborough's campaigns at Blenheim Palace.
