Hiya, I'm painting up my 15mm early war Red Army and I was thinking of doing some NKVD Border Troops as they were involved in the early fighting. Whilst I'm okay with uniform colours, trousers and cap bands, all I've come across are pictures of NKVD troops wearing the peaked cap. I was wondering if they would have worn helmets and the side cap at all? Cheers, Karl |

Not that I know of – I've only seen the peaked cap. I'm going down the Peter Pig route for mine – Russians in peaked caps from their WWI / RCW range for the riflemen, and head swaps for the occasional automatic weapon. The latter are a bit of a faff, but they have peaked cap heads in their odds and ends range, it's only a few figures need the head swaps, and frankly it makes them such a distinctive unit that they're worth the bit of bother, imo. |
