The siege of the legations in Peking is great to wargame. There are a great variety of defenders and the Chinese can be infinitely recycled as attackers. I have participated in such a game at a convention and it is VERY challenging. Thanks for the link Armand. |

Happy you had enjoy it my friends. the pic of the french marines at Pekin siege is great. Incredible to see the destruction of the buildings. It had to be a hard battle. Sad that in the movie "55 days
" they show it for only three minutes. Amicalement Armand |

Some of the Legation Buildings still survive in modern Beijing among which the French and British are the best preserved. The French Legation has an emigration function so at least you can get in the gate. On the other hand the British Legation now houses the HQ of the Communist Party for Beijing and is well guarded at all times. Entry s impossible for foreigners and they don't like you taking pictures from outside. |

There was a display at the Forbidden City he lat time I was there which as a few years ago. It was all in Chinese and portrayed the Boxers as early pre Communist heroes. This is similar to the current treatment of the Taiping Rebellion which is also shown as a pre Communist peoples' struggle against a corrupt empire and foreigners There is a large museum in Nanjing devoted to the Taipings. The way China uses History is best shown at the runs of the Summer palace that was destroyed by the French and English. Amongst the ruins is a large multilingual sign to the effect that this is what happens when China was weak. In order to prevent it from happening again China has to be strong and united. link |
