Has anyone had any experience using FFoT with 3mm minis? The conversion for armour is about 1:3, so I've been contemplating using Pico Armor based as a platoon to make up the company. For example. An Israeli tank company in FFoT has 3 MBTs. each of these companies would be represented by a base, say 40x40, with 3 tanks on it. Four tank companies make a battalion. Thoughts? |

40mm might be a bit large 25mm ones are probably better, especially for poor troops. I have my 6mm stuff based on 1 by 3/4" bases. 3mm should look great with actual platoons of tanks instead of a single vehicle. |

I'm using different rules, but the same scale of game, with 3mm. It seems like a good match, and the figs are great. |

Hi I've played locally here in Edmonton Wargame Group in Alberta, Canada using Pico 3mm armour and FFoT 3.
Figures by Dave Coltman, Photos by Bob Barneston The neat thing is that unlike having one vehicle on the stand with three vehicles there you feel like you are really using platoons. Fits the game scale nicely.

A company of Israeli Centurions (3 platoons of 3 plus 2 single HQ tanks). The platoons are on 40 x 30mm bases, the singles on 20mm squares. I did a full battalion (4 companies) this way, and also a brigade – 3 full battalions (31 tanks per battalion) – of T-55s for the Egyptians. Currently I have APCs and assorted support units in progress.

I have had very good success using the Flames of War small bases for my Pico Armor – big vehicles like M1 Abrams are a little close together on the base but most any Soviet/Russian and older western vehicles work quite well – for Helos and aircraft I put 2 on a FOW medium base – I'll have to see if I can dig up some pics – the stands work very well for any modern game where a stand represents a platoon & the Pico Armor has a great deal of variety – most things are already available – more new stuff coming each month |

I do almost exclusively when I want a solo battle. I convert everything from I inch = 1 cm. I bought some 1inch thick pink foam and I am making 2'x4' battle boards. Two are done (desert and a rough hilly arid) over an unexpected Christmas break I will be working on european versions. I base one tank on a 1.6mm thick 10mm x 20mm plywood base. I base inf plt on a 15mm x 20mm base. I use standing figs to call out command units. I base command vehicles on a 15mm x 20mm base I spray the bases with texture spray paint from home depot or lowes. Much cheaper to field a brigade +/- units. My only beef with OO is the lack of engineering vehicles AVLB's and French vehicles. |

Looking at the org lists for Yom Kippur in FFoT3, the armour seems to be scaled at 1:5. So 6 stands making a Syrian battalion
So each stand represents a half company rather than a platoon. Currently trying to decude whether to change the scale to 1:3 and base by platoon as planned, or whether to stick to the ratio in the book. 5 MBT's will be a bit crowded on a 40x40 however
Think 60x40 will take up too much room? Also trying to decide whether or not I should base my infantry and transports separately?
This image has been pinched from a random google search, I do kind of link the way the larger bases work
