You're incorrect about the stats being a wash, attack is strictly better than defense – 4 non-focus icons rather than 3 gives it the edge. Also, the new homing missiles from wave 2 give the TIE-Ad another very good option to bring to the table. |

I like the fact that an X-Wing can just flat out destroy a regular TIE fighter in one shot. Three hits, three wiffs on defense and BOOM, just like the movie. The TIE advanced can't be killed like that, but the X-Wing still has a higher damage potential. |

Agreed that 3 att/2 def is not a wash with 2 att/3 def. Without missiles the Tie Advanced is only a marginal improvement over the Tie Fighter when taking points into account. It's the ability to take missiles that really makes the Tie Advanced so useful. -Will |

Darth in the Tie advanced is nasty
dual actions . the x ( equal piots) has a slight advantage. with better hitting power . |

but the TIE advance can barrel roll and evade (which is a free a save), my TIE advances frequetly out fly X-Wings in head to head matches. i feel the x-wings hitting power is not that much more powerful when compared to the defense capeabilities of the TIE Advanced. The difference is the X-Wing can do three to four hits (depending on range) if the saves are a wiff and the TIE Adv can do two to three hits(depending on range) if saves are a wiff, but being more saves and manueverability make up for having less fire power in a head to head match up. thus making is a wash. |

I just watched a video of a game being played on Boardgamegeek. As soon as the two sides got within shooting range, the rebel player ganged up on Darth Vader and in one round's worth of attacks, destroyed him. There was an audible gasp from the crowd. The rebel player ultimately won. |

As soon as the two sides got within shooting range, the rebel player ganged up on Darth Vader and in one round's worth of attacks, destroyed him. Concentration of fire is always important in X-Wing – even the most expensive pilot can be dragged down by enough scuts shooting at him. 3-die attacks (be it X-Wings or Ion Cannons) really improve the odds of tagging even against a 3-agility target, but masses of 2-die shots will eventually do the job as well. I've seen Vader dragged down by an enemy TIE swarm, although it took them two rounds to do it. I'm always amazed when players split their fire when they don't have to, especially when it allows the enemy to get mileage out of a second Evade or defensive Focus action. Once you start shooting a target, keep doing so till it drops. |
