Thanks for posting these. I've got quite a few similar maps in books and articles, but it never hurts to have more. I have still yet to see any drawings, artist sketches, etc., of the defenses around the city during the siege. |

I'm going to the library today, so I'll look at the maps Armand provided there, if they don't match the Khartoum map I have, I'll try and scan it and post it here w/in the next few days. |

Thanks Tango. I'm sure this will be handy. |

Andrew, thanks for that. I game the early Sudan period in 15mm and built a massive walled town for "Khartoum" type games, but from my readings there weren't really any walls, but a series of earthworks and parapets that covered most of the town. However, I've never really seen any pictures or drawings of what they looked like. I run a large IT department in a university library and haven't been able to come up with much here. It's kind of like the discussions on Nile steamers and gunboats. Several sources cite up to 30 vessels at times in the area, but there's only drawings and pictures of a handful. |

I have a whole batch of 'The Graphic' newspapers at home for this date, and I'm sure there's some interesting illustrations within them for Khartoum – I'll browse over the weekend and see if I can get some scanning done. |

Gentlefolk, As promised, I was able to scan the map this AM. Unfortunately, I have NO IDEA on how to post the picture here, but I was able to provide a link so you can download it. If any of you know how to post it here directly, you more than have my permission to do so
I'd be thrilled if you would. ACK! Usually I'm a wiz at this, but somehow I can't get rid of the black backgound, so if you can, please delete that area too! The map is from: The Siege and Fall of Khartoum-F.R. Wingate (an old, rare Pallas Armata reprint). Also, I have two (2) corresponding Orders of Battle that match the map over on TVAG, if any of you are interested. I hope this map is of use. Andrew link |

Wow, great link, Andrew, thanks for posting it! I had never heard of the British campaign in Darfur during WWI. |

You're quite welcome! Matter of fact, if you scroll down on the left of that site, there are a tonne of African campaigns listed. Many of them are quite detailed and I must admit (sheepishly), "a few of them" (two to be exact), I've never even heard of! (Don't tell anyone, or my credentials will be withdrawn)! Also, if anyone clicks on John's avatar/logo for ASKARI it will take you to the ATO link for his just released wargame on GEA in WW1 Africa. |
