At this point who knows how it will turn out in its final cut but at this point, and for the moment, just enjoy the Kaiju goodness of this trailer.

This has some elements that remind me of Toho Kaiju,Evangelion,Battletech,Robot Jocks,Monsterpocalypse and more.

One giant "MEH!"

Bigger + Noisier =/= Better.

snodipous13 Dec 2012 10:10 a.m. PST

I have zero interest in Godzilla and his (her?) siblings, but I've liked everything Guillermo Del Toro has done so far, so I'm optimistic.

Willtij13 Dec 2012 10:10 a.m. PST

Is that a giant Kaiju MEH?

The G Dog Fezian13 Dec 2012 10:15 a.m. PST

Why?

richarDISNEY13 Dec 2012 10:22 a.m. PST

thumbs up
Looking forward to it!

I like the jet-power-assisted punch idea.
I don't like the standard attempt at dramatic speech.
I like Guillermo Del Toro.

Might be horrible, but then again it's giant robot warriors battling giant monsters. How bad/good can it be?

It's like my expectations for any Underworld movie: it's Matrixy vampires battling werewolves. I do not expect Shakespeare, I merely expect entertainment.

Can't be worse than Prometheus, right? RIGHT??!

Dynaman878913 Dec 2012 10:48 a.m. PST

Will there be cake?

PatrickWR13 Dec 2012 10:49 a.m. PST

I'll see this. It's not trying to present itself as anything other than "Independence Day" meets "Cloverfield."

PatrickWR13 Dec 2012 10:50 a.m. PST

Also … GLaDOS??!?

Gokiburi13 Dec 2012 11:06 a.m. PST

Daikaiju+giant robos+glados!?
It's like they made this just for me.
Must…watch…terrible…movie.

Transformers vs Godzilla?

Why don't they have big freaking guns?

I will pass.

You know, we should nuke them from orbit

It's the only way to be sure

In further news, Holywood Studio Execs have too much money on their hands and blow it on the next best blockbuster movie, no matter the premise.
Guillermo del Toro directs a movie about giant mecha fighting giant monsters… I guess he needs a new Yacht or something :D

sharkbait13 Dec 2012 4:48 p.m. PST

Looking forward to it! I can't get my expectations very high though. I hope it doesn't suck.

Pictors Studio13 Dec 2012 4:52 p.m. PST

And I will happily contribute to his "new Yacht" or whatever it is he needs.

JSchutt13 Dec 2012 6:02 p.m. PST

How does it end…. With the arrival of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Toy sales are sure to outstrip movie revenues on this one. Then again that's what we live for!

kallman14 Dec 2012 6:34 a.m. PST

let's see, the movie does not pretend to be anything other than what it is. It is a giant monsters fights giant robots while conventional arms have little effect and lots of real estate gets destroyed, high production movie that will be entertaining and fun. OK I'm in.

I am stoked about this! Is that Jax Teller from Sons of Anarchy?

Thieses14 Dec 2012 7:19 a.m. PST

Giant Robots? Kaiju? Major landmarks being torn to pieces? What is not to like?
These are a few of my favorite things. These are always cheesey, and I usually watch these movies in Japanese. The fact that I can actually understand the dialogue is a bonus. :)

Willtij14 Dec 2012 10:40 a.m. PST

And you can see the trailer with commentary by the director himself:

I had my doubts about this film, but I just listened to an interview from the director about it: "I wanted to make the kind of movie that would make my head explode when I was 12."

Now I can't wait!

billthecat18 Dec 2012 1:21 p.m. PST

Well, at first I was jazzed about this, but after watching the trailer I think that this movie is taking itself WAY TOO SERIOUSLY…..

Too much Independence Day meets Cloverfield meets Ironman…
Needs more Godzilla silliness. But hey, what do I know, maybe giant robots slugging it out with giant monsters is really deep and poetic material full of pathos and subtelty and social commentary and romance…?

Coelacanth19 Dec 2012 9:19 p.m. PST

My inner 12 – year old is going to pilot me right down to the theatre to see this. I am sending the trailer to all my friends. FORGET Man of Steel, this is gonna be my summer movie!
