If we're doing tank spotting, I think the 2nd model on the top shelf is actually a postwar M36 Jackson: muzzle brake, bore evacuator, and extended rear (whereas the M10s had counterweights instead)

Nah, 20mm, or GZG's 'true 25mm' figures. High school girls in Japan aren't 3 feet tall. Besides, I think GZG actually has some schoolgirls in one of their ranges. |

A bit funny to me though, the japs have already made historical tank centric games way before World of Tanks (with some really weird twists) Metal Max/Metal Saga comes to mind (imagine Lighthearted Mad Max: The Tank RPG) Heres the opening to Metal Saga (no it is not an Anime, the japs always make their openings like that!) YouTube link Note that a Tiger blowing up an Abrahms sure is a stretch, but this is a post apoc world so I guess abrahms arent what they use to be! |

15mm
Armor to look like these and Wargame them like this? I might, just need to find sources for everything in 15mm. Well, not repaint, but purpose-buy everything. A Stug with the Sashimono would just be funny. Especially considering the mix they've got: Shinsengumi, Sanada, and a couple others that I don't recognize immediately. Who makes a JGSDF type 10 in 15mm? If nobody makes one, what's close enough to be easily converted? |

I can get all of the AFVs in my scale of choice (1/87) and I'll be putting together a set to use with a the same stripped-down FoW rules I used to demo wargaming at the last San Diego Comic Con. Hopefully, they'll be ready to run before next July. I think the Lee crew will have a negative modifier for bailing since they seem to do it so often. Wyatt |

This show is actually a lot of fun to watch in a variety of ways: The characters are likable, the combination of schoolgirl anime tropes and tank mayhem is fun to watch, and the actual tank-vs-tank warfare is actually exciting to watch: if you;re anything like me you'll find yourself shouting at the screen ("Don't go down that way! It's obviously an ambush!") In short, don't knock it till ya try it! |

That was
interesting ;) Never was into anime myself, but have to admit that tanks are done pretty well. Still, with all those jumping and wheeling around I really don't think that these match-ups could really work..You'd think watching the stuff that something like BT-7 could happily jump around the group hitting enemy barrels amd tracks before they even notice you ;) On a positive side, some nice stereotypes for the teams,up to proper russian cookies and Katyusha where they do say "l" sound
nice ;) |

If some folks decide to play a game of "Girls und Panzer", one of the rules should be that the loser must do the "Anglerfish dance". For fun I thought of buying some 1/300th H&R tanks and make the Ooarai Sensha-dô team, but I can't find a Type 89 or a Type 3 Chi-Nu !! And I guess I can forget about a Porsche Tiger. |

Episode 10.5 is now available. link This is a re-cap episode so the fan-boys will whine and complain, but I find these episodes nice since I get to find out a little more about the lesser characters and what their favorite tanks (and flowers) are. Artraccoon, that Type 89 is rare even in larger scales. I've found one or two resin models in 1/76th, one in 1/72 (though this is from a small Japanese company and seems no longer available) and I recall seeing at least one 15mm white metal model. Long before Girls und Panzer I was searching for a 1/72 Type 89 for China, Nomonhon, and the Philippines. |
Patrick R | 27 Dec 2012 9:12 a.m. PST |
They do explain how shooting and combat works. Any pre August 1945 tank is allowed, though prototypes have to be specially approved. All tanks are fitting with a judging system that will determine if the tank is knocked out. Shells have a chip in them and have limited penetration to protect the crew. A special inner liner adds extra protection though injury is still possible though very rare. |

I'm considering building a few GuP teams in 15mm. This is outside of my usual 20mm/1:72 scale for ww2 gaming. I won't hold my breath for crew figures, but I hope someone does a set of decals in 15mm or even 1/35th that I can reduce to 1/100th. It would be rather fun to have a tournament with Oorai, Gloriana, Pravda, etc. |

14Bore, does it explain how tanks can dodge the shells? |
14Bore | 09 Jan 2013 4:10 p.m. PST |
They do dodge them sometimes (throwing the tank into a skid for instance), but honestly they miss point blank often and it's just bad shooting and they admit it. They are teenage girls and are picking up how to operate tanks from smart phones and manuals so not much is to be expected. And all the underclass girls are all in the M3 Lee so usually do very bad. |
Lion in the Stars | 09 Jan 2013 9:00 p.m. PST |
So it has rather realistic hit% then? (I'm waiting for a DVD collection before I watch the show) |
rvandusen | 09 Jan 2013 10:18 p.m. PST |
14Bore is right on. The first year girls are abysmal, but are getting steadily better throughout the series. At least they didn't abandon their Lee after the tournament gets underway. A humorous scene occurs when the Student Council in their 38t miss when firing at the Gloriana tanks at point-blank range, but they redeem themselves against Pravda with equally close flank shots. This is really the first anime series I've ever watched and quite like it. I've tried watching a few years ago, but was not too impressed by what I had chosen at random from video stores. I'm looking forward to the concluding episodes and hope there will be another season. |

Barin1 | 10 Jan 2013 11:04 p.m. PST |
Yeah, right. In fighting with Pravda they have shamed real life germans by disabling KV-2 with a single shot, got a shell into enemy's barrel and later on made a serie of single-shell victories over half of T-34, making that during high-speed race. Of course it is as realistic as it can be ;) Let's just say that it is a modern world fairy tale that has some interesting stuff, but has nothing to do with reality – except good recreation of tank looks and taking in mind some of these tanks capabilities
|
rvandusen | 11 Jan 2013 6:47 a.m. PST |
Barin1. That is true. It is a fairy tale. They go to school on a giant aircraft carrier. In the case of knocking out the KV-2, didn't the girls hit it with a long 75mm at fairly close range? I'm sure hitting it on the first shot seems far-fetched, but certainly at close range an L43 or L48 cannon could K/O a KV-2 from the front. My 'roll my eyes' moment(of many!) was when Hana gets off a single shot into the flank of a moving Sherman at long range with the fairly inaccurate short L24 gun. But het, it's a cartoon! But I do love this show. Having watched each episode a couple of times, I actually quite like the story and characters as much as the tanks. I like the positive message and overarching themes of loyalty. |
miniMo | 11 Jan 2013 9:02 a.m. PST |
Umm, you're watching a cartoon about a girls high school tankery team. Questioning reality may hinder your enjoyment of the show. ~,~ |
