I was humming it last night while I was converting some BTD Saxon lingers into Shire Scouring Ruffians with whips. Lost Pict |

Wow. I know that Jackson has detractors, but even on TMP I didn't expect the bile expressed here. The LOTR movies were a good adaptation, and I don't think any other director working could have come up with a better movie adaptation. No, they're not identical to the books. No movie is. Nor can any movie be. They're different art forms. Would that half the books out there got adaptations as "terrible" as Jackson's. |

The changes most people have a problem with are those that have nothing to do with adapting a book to a movie. Elves at Helms Deep The Army of the Dead at the Battle of Pelennor fields The whole odd ending to Return of the King Plus the issue with Saurman and The Scouring of the Shire could have been handled better. On a positive note, the flight from the Shire was well done and needed to change from the book. Also his start to Two Towers was great. But the fact that he wanted Sauron fighting Aragorn outside the Black Gates and pretty much had it filmed before being persauded not to do it is very telling. Perhaps he is an alright director, but as writer and editior of others peoples works, he is a hack. |

Aragorn vs Sauron: YouTube link I never heard of this. Interesting and neat glimpse into movie making. I totally understand what Peter was thinking, having a physical manifestation of Sauron is easier for audiences to wrap their heads around then the stupid Eye. Got to remember, Movie Studios want lots and lots of people to see and enjoy(spend money) these films, not just us nerds. Xin |

I never heard about the Sauron thing either. I am looking forward to seeing Thorin and the movie tonight. |

"But now Tolkien sat and hearkened, and for a great while it seemed good to him, for in the music there were no flaws. But as the theme progressed, it came into the heart of Peter Jackson to interweave matters of his own imagining that were not in accord with the theme of Tolkien; for he sought therein to increase the power and glory of the part assigned to himself." LOL Re: Fafhrd. "WHERE IS THE JUG!!" Perfect for the screen. |

Oh, and while I'm at it, the only story in the Silmarillion ready for the screen is Luthien and Beren and his quest for the jewels. |

NO LAMENT FOR THORIN OAKENSHIELD I felt obligated, now that I saw the movie to come back here. While I do still wish that Thorin had a longer beard and looked a little older. The portrayal of Thorin by Armitage and Jackson was really fantastic and I really enjoyed the movie. I have always liked Tolkien's Dwarves the best. I think Jackson did a good job of portaying them even if he did take large liberties. I am looking forward to playing the Hobbit game by GW and unlike before I will not remodel the Thorin figure! Hope everybody else enjoyed the movie as much as I did! |

I didn't like that he still carries an oak branch. |

I liked that Thorin had taken the piece of wood that saved his life and shaped it into a shield
adds greatly to his mythos

More like a wooden arm bracer than a shield! |

If the fall of Gondolin isn't worth a movie
then The silmarillion won't be filmed. Imagine it : Balrogs driving on Dragons to attack the great elvish city – that's a heck of a scene ! |

Fall of Gondolin would be awesome also: The Dwarves fighting the dragons (they did in Sim.) The last fight of Fingolfin was always my favorite. Just think if PJ can stretch Hobbit into 3 movies (which I'm okay with) He could make about twenty movies out of the Similarion. |
