We played a another small Hail Caesar game using the Gauls and Romans I had on hand. The write up is posted to my blog, hopefully with enough pics and maps to help you make sense of the battle, because I could really use some tactical advice!

Great AAR

Lovely looking armies! Hope you don't mind acquiring a new follower type. I promise only to loot behind the lines of your defeated enemies, honest…

Great AAR and lovely figures.

I find it always best to have a rapid advance with 'less tutured' armies like Gauls. Less time for the enemy to respond.
You were up against a very good general though and congratulations to him on his tactics.

"This game I decided to move safely and methodically, using initiative moves (which don't require a command roll) to slowly move into mid field with my battle line,"

??? You can only use Intiative moves when within 12" of an enemy.

The fact that this game is considered "small" has single-handedly convinced me that I will never play Hail Caesar! Nice report!

Hail Caesar works fine no matter how many figures are in your units. I have 12 man units and I recently played an HC game with 7 or 8 units on each side – no more than a couple of hundred figures or so! I could just as easily have fielded them as 6 figure units and had twice as many units on the table with the same number of figures.

The WF Romans don't look like much out of the box, but a good painter like yourself can do wonders with them. Really well done.
