I've just bought an old Fleetline 1/1200 scale model of the Icelandic patrol boat Aegir. Can anyone offer advice on colours?

As the model would date back to the 70's, I was hoping to have her as she qould have been during the Cod Wars, so it looks like the stripes with the national colours on the sides are out. And what about the deck?

Any help will be appreciated.

Why would the stripes be out? Is there any reason to assume it would be anything other than grey?

My father was a US Naval officer in charge of the port at Reykjavik during his tour there in the 60s; I'll see if his memory still goes back that far.

Try Google images.

You just might get lucky.

Here is a poor quality color picture from the 1970's

so I suspect it was grey.

Hope this helps.

They were overall pale grey. I've been lucky enough to obtain models of most, if not all the ICGVs of the period ad many of the RN ships involved in the Cod Wars

Thanks everyone for replying.

So just to make sure I've got this right David, overall pale grey means deck and helideck?

79thPA: the only reason I tend to think the stripes on the sides were added later, is because I can't find any photos of the era showing them. It's a pity really, they do look cool.

Thanks for that link tmy1939. I have been scouring the net looking for images, but I never found those ones.

Sorry, the hull and superstructure were pale grey, decks and flight deck dark grey.

I recall seeing video footage of some of the encounters and I am positive they weren't decorated in any way – they were pretty plain.
