These are a bit overdue it seems. I keep looking at them over at the Warstore and wondering if I should just forget the whole thing or wait patiently a little longer…
Any news on when and if these will be released?

Chef Lackey Rich Fezian06 Dec 2012 11:24 a.m. PST

Aren't they available already? The Defiance store shows them as "now shipping" over here:

Sounds like they are having quite the time--no bugs for distributors for the foreseeable future, and a lot of complaints about missing orders on the site. It's a shame.

Caesar06 Dec 2012 11:51 a.m. PST

They seemed so reliable and timely before…

Personal logo Dances With Words Supporting Member of TMP Fezian06 Dec 2012 12:01 p.m. PST

to just mention the 'other' side of the 'coin'…at LEAST the products done so far….are going out to the mail-order/internet orders…BEFORE the retailers, etc get them…

On the other TENTACLE….I pre-ordered TWICE now…and while I waited for my bugs the longest….I decided to give them a 'second chance' by PRE-ordering their Aleutian Swamp Worms, which were 'due to start shipping the week of Oct 8th'…and as you might guess, HAVEN'T, though some earlier OTHER orders got some samples…(like I got a couple sample 'Germans' in mine, but also missing a couple parts of bugs, which I was able to fix myself with a bit of epoxy)…

They have some really NEAT stuff done and 'in the works'…but my October 'pre-order' will probably NOT be here by Christmas.

So, in all 'fairness' to them and myself, I can't see doing any MORE 'pre-orders' with them.

If it's not 'in stock' then my cash stays 'in wallet.'

mydogbarks06 Dec 2012 12:05 p.m. PST

I ordered the Germans in sept, got them this week. Rather disappointed in them. They share the same awkward stiff poses as thier WF cousins and the plastic/resin is a pain to assemble.

billthecat06 Dec 2012 12:07 p.m. PST

Yes, same here for the obvious reasons. I would like to see Defiance do well (and sell lots of bugs and hardsuits esp.) but the wait is frustrating… sounds like I will write this one off for a while. Thanks all.

McWong7306 Dec 2012 2:57 p.m. PST

It's the fault of the Chinese.

tauwarlord19606 Dec 2012 3:02 p.m. PST

I think Defiance is "going the direct order route"

The only thing you can buy from 3rd parties is their marines unless you have a LGS that sells their stuff

mydogbarks06 Dec 2012 3:08 p.m. PST

Also should have included that there were a lot weapon sprues with unusable guns. They must still have problems casting. The squad MG had no barrel just a lump of plastic. Many of the rifles were so bent and twisted, that no amount of reheating would make them useable. I preordered but did not receive the free extra figure.

Grumpy Monkey06 Dec 2012 7:08 p.m. PST

I know CmderKiley never received the Sargent either.

Funny how the almost same pattern emerges, I hope they get things turned around I really want those hard suits

Wolfprophet06 Dec 2012 11:17 p.m. PST

I'm waiting to buy anything else from them until they work the kinks out of their manufacturing. They're having a hell of a time with it from the sounds of things now that they're in-house. But being in house, they should have a better time with getting things out once that's all sorted. Till then….. None of my money. Their Marines were a major disappointment to me and I just want their bugs to bolster my Arachnid Empire. Sick of building and painting humans in 1000 different flavors and there aren't enough "bugs" I actually like.

Although, as far as sci-fi humans go…. I gave Mantic's Corporation and Enforcers a try and LOVE THEM. They go together so easily and paint up so nicely it almost makes me a little giddy for future releases.

Krede7707 Dec 2012 10:57 a.m. PST

I ordered some bugs in the start of september, they supposedly shipped Mid October , but so far… Nothing…

Echo5Hotel20 Dec 2012 11:38 a.m. PST

I'm still waiting for my Panzer Grenadiers and waited for my bugs for the longest time. I am trying to keep my faith in them but the lack of communication is what is really beginning to bother me. I wanted to have some of their PGs to put on the table as me and some of my friends are planning on running some Alien War at Siege of Augusta. I may have to substitute some Wargames Factory fellas as a different faction instead.

Muerto27 Dec 2012 6:11 a.m. PST

The last news entry on their site was posted on November 19, consisting of the usual assurances that everything is finally perfect, for real this time. The last announcement from them on their Facebook page was the same day. Their forums are down for maintenance, allegedly.

The Defiance Games account here has been silent since that date. Mexican Jack Squint has spoken about many things, but not that company, since that date.

Initially, it seemed that the silence indicated that loose lips had finally, finally been held to save ships. But now, especially with the forums down, I wonder if it is the silence of the graveyard.

Stale popcorn

Given how nice the bug sculpts are, I hope things are somehow better than they appear.

badger2227 Dec 2012 4:40 p.m. PST

So glad I did not order any. I still want some but willing to wait until theu actualy exist. I dont need anymore vaporware minis.

I've worked in customer relations in one form or another for a very very long time. It's all about managing the customer's expectations. No communications is a big problem. Being upfront with the customer about issues you have is 100 times better than turning the phone off.

I hope they get it sorted out soon, as those bugs look cool and I wish them well.

That is certainly a rather long time to be completely incommunicado. Hopefully nothing really untoward has happened, given DG is (as we've been repeatedly informed) a really small company where "every man counts", so to speak.

Well, maybe someone will soon be prompted to appear and inform those still waiting for their produce about what's transpired.

Kristof6528 Dec 2012 10:42 p.m. PST

I probably shouldn't open my mouth, and I don't have any specific information.

I was among their "Cognescenti" (Beta Test team) and a contributor to them, and even I don't have a good feeling about the way things have been going the last few months. The forum being down for so long now is disturbing to me as well.

However, I interacted with all those guys enough to say with some conviction that I don't believe there was ever any malice or intent to deceive on the part of Defiance. They just seem to be unable to follow through in a timely fashion when it comes to production and communication.

To those of you who have orders outstanding with them, I'm confident they're honorable enough to eventually get you product or a refund if you keep pestering them and have a little patience.

To those of you who haven't placed an order, either wait and see, or get them through a distribution channel and your FLGS, preferably one that won't charge you until they get said product from Defiance.

If they can get their act together, we should see some pretty good stuff out of them eventually, and Howard's Alien War game is pretty fun.

Kristof6530 Dec 2012 4:02 p.m. PST

Well, I just got blasted on the Beta Test list for seconding someone elses question about whether or not DFG was still in business.

The good news is that, No, they aren't out of business, they're still working on catching up with production. So those of you who have orders outstanding, keep emailing them.

Two, the forums are down because they're doing something with them, but they won't say what.

Apparently DFG has decided to go with a policy of simply being quiet and addressing the issues they're having internally instead of trying to make excuses. Tony has apparently told everyone at DFG to be quiet, and by posting this here, I'm probably getting the person who blasted me in even more trouble, even though he actually said very little beyond "we're still here, and there is a good reason the forums are down, but it's not a sinister one."

Richard Gaulding30 Dec 2012 8:09 p.m. PST

Figures, I ignore the e-mail list for a while and juicy stuff starts happening :(

Well, sounds like they are roughly on the right track then, apart from apparently not answering people who have outstanding orders and legitimate issues about their products. Hopefully those will now be handled and they can then get on with business as usual.

Judge Doug01 Jan 2013 11:15 a.m. PST

"they are roughly on the right track then, apart from apparently not answering people who have outstanding orders and legitimate issues about their products"

The right track for.. going out of business?

"They're doing good except for not producing product people have paid for."

Muerto01 Jan 2013 4:33 p.m. PST

This new policy is the opposite extreme to the previous one of constantly and consistently making unrealistic promises (see, as best example, the infamous 'roadmap'), but is dramatically better.

This is an important step. I wish them luck.

(On a side note, Kristof, do you still hold out hope for 6mm deathbots?)

(Also, Richard, Tony's policy of silence probably also applies to the unofficial spokesman – maybe best to leave the grumpy old farts at Frothers alone.)

Paragonicnova07 Jan 2013 9:28 p.m. PST

Seriously

Their Forums are still down. Their Facebook is full of people wondering where their order is with no one answering them from the company. Theres like nothing at all

I mean yea some companies do have long breaks in between, even victrix and perry have their off months

But at least they dont have products they dont actually have

If there is nothing by the end of January, I would really advise people to stay away from these people

Judge Doug07 Jan 2013 10:17 p.m. PST

there is someone from the company answering their facebook wall posts. Just not very reassuring posts, but they are being answered.

I have nothing against these guys. In fact, I empathized with them during their travails. I also wish them all the best. However, I honestly believe that anyone who does a preorder with them knowing their track record should at a minimum expect 'issues' along the way.

Thanks,

John

With the situation as it seems, could be wise to go silent, fix the issues, then move forward from there. They also need to be certain that they perform some customer service with the folks that are awaiting their orders. Its how they come out of this, and then how they perform for awhile that will count in the long run.

Too bad there's so much negative frothing at the mouth over on that other site that will go unmentioned. There's a bunch of repetitive whining, like a screeching broken record. Makes themselves look bad.

By the way, got my order of UAMC and Hudson's Bugs quite awhile back, before the recent slowdown on shipping. I'm pleased with both kits.

As for the glueing issue, I've been using an accelerator and it speeds the process of all my gluing substantially. Even my glueing of metal figures has improved dramatically.

Too bad Defiance Games are still taking money but not delivering product or answering customer concerns.

Of the two, I wonder who's really making themselves look bad?

And I bet you were aching to go read everything they had to say.

A bit too much hand-wringing and scapegoating going on. What'll it take to convince people that Team Tony's failures are not down to dastardly inscrutable chinese, sneaky incompetent casters, or even frothing moustache-twirling brits, but Team Tony themselves?

Griefbringer12 Jan 2013 11:15 a.m. PST

However, I honestly believe that anyone who does a preorder with them knowing their track record should at a minimum expect 'issues' along the way.

On the other hand, considering their past history, perhaps also the people on the business end should learn to no longer offer any sort of pre-orders for their products. Or orders for stuff they do not have in stock in sufficient numbers.

This would allow them to concentrate on actually getting product ready, or shipping orders for stuff they have in stock, rather than dealing with customers who are wondering what is up with the orders that have not been delivered yet.

alien BLOODY HELL surfer12 Jan 2013 12:32 p.m. PST

I think they need the pre-order money to function….

MikeHobbs12 Jan 2013 1:15 p.m. PST

if they need money to survive then instead of doing pre-orders based on promises that they cant keep, why don't they see how much goodwill there is left in the industry for them and do a kickstarter?

I don't really know what they're doing or not doing, yet perhaps the beginning of my post has been forgotten? Neither seems to be looking particularly good.

Ok, yet we've heard it all before.

(Wait GP, now who's starting to sound like a broken record?)

Ooops, good point, although at least neither of us seems to be screeching yet.

(True, and thankfully.)

I'm still waiting on my 'Aleutian Swamp Worms'….that were pre-ordered by me in Sept? and due to start shipping (according to their own site)

"11Sep Aleutian Swamp Worms Available for Pre-Order!

Posted in News Category

We first unveiled the Swamp Worms a couple weeks ago – but now we can tell you that they will be shipping the week of October 8th!…."

It is now January 13th.
No Updates, No Worms, no idea when/if?
No more 'pre-orders'-Priceless!

Paragonicnova13 Jan 2013 2:44 p.m. PST

I think the worms decided to hibernate for the winter!

The Early Bird gets to pay money to sit around and wonder if they'll ever get the worm?

My Germans and bugs arrived today. A bit under a month for ordering. No issues with the guns or bug components.

Paragonicnova14 Jan 2013 4:03 p.m. PST

These aint mine and I know you can "fix them" since its resin, but to wait months only to see this

Does not make me think waiting for a long while is worth it. Just me though I suppose. I wonder how big their melting pot of miscasts is if these are ok to ship out.

I got my bugs today. It's been a long wait very long, too long. But everything is finally as it should be. They threw in a couple of marine sprues and two of the new slugs for free which I much appreciate. However if anybody from defiance games are reading this forum, I'd like to get the message across that though the extra minis are nice, I would have preferred some regular updates regarding my order instead!!. the complete silence about delays either by mail, or by forum has done NOTHING to build up trust in defiance games.I think that's a shame, because I believe that Tony is doing his best to run a serious business, and from looking at the bug models I can appreciate that they might be a pain to cast and package, so some delays might be expected.

Lion in the Stars24 Feb 2013 11:21 p.m. PST

Eeeeeyup.

Look, I'm not entirely happy with the endless delays that have plagued the OGRE project, but at least I have gotten an average of one update per week as to what was going on.

I'd rather have updates with no promises attached for dates, just "this is what went wrong, here's what we plan to do to fix it, and it will take at least X additional weeks because of this problem;" not some date that the writer pulled out of his arse.
