I have an interest in gaming the 8th Cape Frontier War and I am aware of Curtseys/1st Corps Xhosa warrior range.

Is there any other producer of 28mm African figures suitable for this period. They need to be naked (or naked with a blanket on their arm) and they must have a head of hair.

Addditionally, are the Eureka Miniatures New Zealand Wars British figures suitable uniform wise for use in the Cape Frontier War of 1850-53?

Have you signed up with the Cape Wars yahoo group? A wealth of information and some inspiring photos to be found there.

sjwalker38,

Thank you, no I was not aware of that group, I shall investigate. Meanwhile, with much respect to Chris Ferree, the following link is of interest

By the 8th Frontier war there is quite a bit of cross trading so dress can be very "variable". The Xhosa are fairly well armed with guns by now, and so big shields are no longer de rigeur.

Other Xhosa figure options are Cannon Fodder Xhosa (not sure if they are still sold, website doesn't load) and North Star Matabele, the later ones with muskets, range from loincloth only to wearing some western clothes:

They alos do some good waggons, boers etc.

British uniforms are very un-uniform after a few weeks on campaign, I think First Corps do it right:

What rules were you thinking of using?

Try Death in the Dark Continent.

Try adapting 'Sharp Practice' and don't forget the excellent wagons from 4Ground. "Harry Smith's Last Throw" is well worth getting as well

Rules?

I was thinking of Sharp Practice, perhaps also adapting the Mexican-American War supplement.

I'll take into consideration the suggestions above (thanks mashrewba) of rules, figures, and waggons (thanks freecloud).

Thanks to you all

Actually yes, Sharp Practice is always a good shout.
