Here's a quick demo with parts from the new CorSec Engineering Flat Pack Terrain kits. The base is a simple PVC double-gang box:

picture

I clipped off the nail brackets, basecoated it with textured spray paint, and painted the raised parts with a heavy red just to break up the monotony. While that was all drying, I snipped off a few pieces from some of the Flat Pack sets and painted them with Reaper Master black brush-on primer.

The large bit from Vent Set #3 was used to cover the injection point on the top of the building, and two of the medium bits from that same frame were fastened near the tops of the walls. Then I added a single door from Door Pack #1 and a small square vent from Vent Set #1 to one side, and a double door and two square vents to the other side.

Since Rebel Mike requested a building like this (and the color scheme matched so well), here's the finished result with some Titan Marines and a HAMR suit.

picture

Even though Jonathan sells the square parts as vents, I'm using them as windows with hardened shutters. The normal windows in Set #1 are just frames, so they would show the textured spray if I used them on this building. But now that that could be mitigated by fitting them to a scrap of glossy card (junk mail has its uses) before attaching them to the building.

The CorSec bits are fantastic for this sort of terrain. A whole table could be covered with buildings for a very small amount of money.

Nice!

Looks good! We have a Habitat for Humanity ReStore here, which sells surplus and used building supplies. Great source for this sort of material.

Don't overlook packaging in your home. I have a plastic tray drying right now destined to become a building. In the supermarket it was a tofu package. Now it has a lift-off roof, and just needs a few doors (I'm going to scratch build mine, but I have some on order from GZG too).

Thank you for that. I have some of those electrical boxes, and I planned to get some of the CorSec bits, just as soon as the Christmas shopping is handled. Now I feel much more confident that it will look great.

I've had the CorSec bits bookmarked for a while. I guess I need to finish my other projects to get to my scratch building. Thank you for the inspiring reminder and the step-by-step construction.

Outstanding! Thanks! I'm off to buy some flats!

I used new style light bulb packs for bunker entries. I have looked at electric boxes but thought they were too hard to cut and modify.

Thanks, everyone. The next demo will consist of these parts added to a GameCraft MDF Middle-Eastern or Afghan building.

I'll post some better pictures (and a more detailed review) on Dropship Horizon once I finish the second project.

I have looked at electric boxes but thought they were too hard to cut and modify.

Not as bad as you're probably thinking. They're PVC, which is a relatively soft plastic. Originally I thought it would take a Dremel to cut and file the mounting wings, but I was able to do this one with a pair of 4" diagonal pliers and a regular file. And the textured spray paint I used completely covered some raised text on the plastic.

The only part of the box that betrays its function is the injection mold point (or points on the bigger boxes). The CorSec vents cover them nicely, and The Scene has bits like rooftop AC units and water tanks if something more three-dimensional is desired.

Looks great. What kind of textured spray paint did you use?

@CorSecEng…FYI, if you click on the pic of the flat kits you get a broken link, the text link works. This is on the terrain page of the shop. Just thought you'd like to know.

Hmm that will show me to try and update the landing page before I create the destination. I'll fix it right now. Thanks!
