I have just painted up the rapid prototype version of the new PSC US Army figures… Doesnt have all the detail of the finished plastic product but gives a good idea what it will look like…

nice work, helmet covers are a nice touch.

As a pointer, if i may be so bold, and you may want to try to see the effect, if the rotbraun mix was slightly thinner you would get a finer spray effect and a finer line.

Waiting for this in 15mmm…..well the bren bit.

I'm looking forward to the U.S. infantry set. The carrier is a nifty conversion. It seems simple to convert one to that multiple Panzerschreck version.

What scale will the infantry be?

PiersBrand24 Nov 2012 5:32 a.m. PST

Thats was thinned Neil! Perhaps not thinned enough?

My airbrush has been a nightmare to be honest!

Tried low pressure too… Still practice will get there in the end!

With airbrushes I think you just have to be patient!

whoa Mohamed24 Nov 2012 5:45 a.m. PST

I love it Neil you need to do more modern your M1 was sweet.
cant wait to see what you do next.
Piers your stuff just keeps getting better and better now can you shrink the photo so its about 1/285 scale so i can paint mine lol….Mikey

Troop of Shewe Fezian24 Nov 2012 5:46 a.m. PST

I know, its not always an exact science, and you can see excatly the same on some of my earlier stuff. If the splatter was happening to me i would thin slightly and lower the pressure, always assuming the head is clean. Whilst not teaching anybody to suck eggs I always practice the spray against a roll of kitchen roll first to get the consistancy in the ball park and then on a spare kit I have exactly for that purpose (an unhappy ebay purchase!)

rustymusket24 Nov 2012 5:50 a.m. PST

I am trying to see a painting problem but I cannot. It looks great!

PiersBrand24 Nov 2012 5:55 a.m. PST

Neil,

I will try more thinner next as I dialed the air pressure right down and Im still getting it. I have been using an airbrush medium with Tamiya paints but may go back to the Tamiya thinners.

Troop of Shewe Fezian24 Nov 2012 7:50 a.m. PST

There isn't a painting problem at all, just a pointer for possible further improvement, as I use an airbrush on the odd occasion I have encountered the same effect so it's certainly not meant as a "picky" point.

Piers, I use tamiya thinners with tamiya paints haven't tried any other medium with them. Likewise lifecolor thinners for lifecolor paints. It's is fine line ( pun intended) between air pressure and thinning, but that's why I use the proxies before it gets anywhere near the subject, but then those splatters still get through ! So it's not fail safe.

PiersBrand24 Nov 2012 7:52 a.m. PST

Cheers Neil! May pick your brains again soon as I have a 28mm StuG to do…

Griefbringer24 Nov 2012 11:38 a.m. PST

What scale will the infantry be?

According to the PSC website, they will be first released in 15 mm size (pretty soon), with 1/72 scale versions to be released later.

So, on that particular camouflage scheme the red-brown is supposed to have thinner lines than the green – or are they supposed to be equally wide?

vogless24 Nov 2012 12:51 p.m. PST

Piers,

Crazy as it sounds, sometimes I get better results with higher pressure with the airbrush with camo.

Damn thing has a mind of it's own sometimes. :)

Sparker24 Nov 2012 1:20 p.m. PST

Lovely models both!

Me, I'm hanging out for 1/72 Panzer III mit Schurtzen…

Jabo 194424 Nov 2012 2:21 p.m. PST

I`m with Sparker !

number424 Nov 2012 3:21 p.m. PST

Nice work on that GI – I hope the final version will have the ammo pouches added.

PiersBrand24 Nov 2012 6:02 p.m. PST

No it has ammo pouches on it… Probably cant see them too well in my pic.

Redoran24 Nov 2012 6:23 p.m. PST

I'm quite looking forward to these American infantry.
I'll be using them for Latin American revolutions and the likes.
That Bren carrier is just terrible! Can't stand seeing the bloody Krauts getting their hands on Allied equipment…
Nice job!

Soldat24 Nov 2012 7:37 p.m. PST

Nive job on both models.

Toshach Sponsoring Member of TMP24 Nov 2012 8:53 p.m. PST

Is that rifleman 15mm or 1/72?

number424 Nov 2012 10:05 p.m. PST

No it has ammo pouches on it… Probably cant see them too well in my pic.

It does – but to me it looks like a single carbine pouch on the right and a carlisle dressing pouch on the left.

See what ya mean… I will let PSC know.

Marc33594 Supporting Member of TMP25 Nov 2012 4:19 a.m. PST

Piers;

One trick I learned from the 1/35th scale armor crowd if you dont already use it. Try thinning the Tamiya acrylic paints with the Tamiya Lacquer Thinner (with the yellow cap) and not their X-20A acrylic thinner. Much better flow.

Troop of Shewe Fezian25 Nov 2012 5:48 a.m. PST

if you can get the yellow cap in the UK, let me know…….

Griefbringer25 Nov 2012 9:57 a.m. PST

You should probably blame certain Tommies for leaving their carriers lying all over the place in 1940. Such a mess must have been rather a stressful sight for all of the order-loving Jerries.

(Leftee)25 Nov 2012 1:51 p.m. PST

And apart from the Wasp the Germans made cooler stuff out of them.
