To find out more about Alice's past I suggest you read the brilliant graphic novel "Lost Girls" by Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbie.

It contains plenty of things you didn't know about Alice, Dorothy and Wendy and, for me, ranks at the top 3 best comics Moore has written.

I wonder what kind of story line goes with this type of Alice. Thanks for the heads up on the Moore book.

54mm – I would have jumped on that if it were closer to 28mm. Wonderful sculpt even if the mushroom is a little….ahem etc.

Not your Disney heroines.

abdul666lw23 Nov 2012 4:58 a.m. PST

'Female heroes' rather than 'heroines' (who screamed and have to be rescued), for sure thumbs up

So may I gather from this that you boys won't mind when I write a Bodacious Pirate Babe into a story of the Zombie Apocalypse as the heroine, melding Fantasy with Sci-Fi in a cross genre story?

Not at all.
Specially if you set it in the mid-18th C. where a Bodacious Pirate Babe with tricorne would fit naturally.

Think 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' (or an adventure like this: link) by the time of Barry Lyndon.

You could also add werewolves

and… slightly unconventional characters

to the mix.

@abdul666lw brilliant suggestions there. I'm only planning a short two part piece with characters that are a spin-off from a book I'm writing. Love the idea of bringing werewolves into it but I don't have any on hand. I'll have to go through the lead pile and see what I have that could be interesting. Thank you.

Re werewolves the new Slap Minis facebook.com/SlapMiniatures ones

are 'anatomically correct' (neither wolves standing upright nor humans with a canine head Anubis fashion, but something fittingly between the two) and even 'complete';and being naked they can suit any period. Unfortunately the poses are rather static and uniform.
Female (and again anatomically complete) ones were promised, I hope they'll not stop at their 'Mini Fillies'

looking more like 'My Little Pony' YouTube link -though at least one, deprived of her horn

would make quite a good 'fox woman' (the Huldra of Scandinavian folklore) YouTube link
In the meantime Black Scorpion has a cute 'Swashbuckling Fox Woman' (no tale-telling tail, she could be a fine were shewolf)

But BS minis are rather huge, I fear?

.

Off-topic a point I really like about the 'NOT Disney' image is that the girls are 3 like the Moirai, the Erinyes, the Gorgons, the Hesperides, the Charites, the Goddesses of the Judgment of Paris, the Gallic 3 cranes, the Nornes, the Somi Saaraahka, Juoksahka, Oksaahka, the 3 Macha, the Triple Morrigan / 3 Morrigna Nemain, Danu, Badb, Ériu and her 2 sisters, the Welsh 3 Gwenhwyfar ('White Fay'), Morgan the Fay and her 2 sisters, down to Shakespeare's 3 witches and the Sleeping Beauty's 3 'good faeries' godmothers: all reminiscences of the three 'funcions' of the ancestral 'worldview' of Indo-European cultures / of the trifunctional Triple Goddess )O(
And, it's probably coincidental but their dresses fit nicely: Alice in 'virginal' white and sky blue is the virgin young Vestal associated with the 'sacerdotal 1st function' [Hera / Brahmins & Druids], the Little Riding Hood in red is the representative of the 'warring 2nd function' [Athena & the Crone aspect associated with death of the Triple Morrigan YouTube link / Kshatriyas & 'Noble Warriors' of Gaul], multi-colored Snowhite is the Mother of the 'fertility 3rd function' [Aphrodite / Vaishyas & 'Freemen' of Gaul].
