Whirlwind Yes, I agree, many posters do try to keep civil and I've enjoyed agreeing and disagreeing with them. But some use terms like idiot, nuisance to name but two against me. Others have posted to me when I've been in the dawghouse knowing full well I can't reply and some have posted and then put me on stifle! So I'm wondering why you are in denial of insults to me. Anyone reading the posts will see them but what they won't see is you diving in ever so quickly to complain. Why is that do you think? It really is a shame you do not keep such a keen eye on other people's posts as you seem to be doing with mine. But after all, it is a forum for information, discussions and debates, some of which are hotley contested. Luckily, I've taken people's insults as tongue-in-cheek reactions to my posts, some of which have dissolved their arguments. It is just a shame you can't see things in the same way concerning my posts. But never mind and I wish you all the best in your new found career as a Gazzolawatcher! |

I have left this site and others, because some do not even wish to discuss Waterloo or any aspects of it, as it is not 2015. I am in stage four prostate cancer and doubt I will have the luxury to be here for the 200th anniversary. For those that shared their knowledge with me, I thank you. For those that did not, I can only assume you had nothing meaningful to contribute in the first place. I think the lesson here is don't assume you may be here for certain future dates, as no one knows what tomorrow holds. Might as well share what knowledge you have, instead of being silent and taking it with you. I will check in from time to time, as I can

*sigh* It is you doing the insulting Gazzola, that is why you get chucked in the Dawghouse. People can post when they want – it isn't all about you. Oh well, I guess I won't have to read you if I stifle you. vW was right, one can't afford to waste one's time with someone who has nothing of value to offer. |

Davout1972 Spot on. People should not get so upset or uptight by remarks, most of which are made tongue-in-cheek. I don't have a grudge against anyone at TMP, no matter what they have said and just laugh at some of the insulting remarks made. And my fellow wargamers can't stop laughing. I have never tried to stifle anyone or complained about the insults, except when I got dawghoused for replying to an insult. But that's life and you just have to get on with it. As you say, no-one knows what might happen tomorrow, so it is really silly to get upset about anything said on this, which is, after all, only a forum for people to debate and argue, and, hopefully, share information. No one will be going to war with what is said – it is just harmless talk and sometimes good fun. I've always looked at it that way but some people can't seem to take someone disagreeing or proving them wrong and may not have expected people to actually go off and research the topic. That's why I am disappointed when people, rather than just stop posting or not reading certain posts, stifle people instead. It makes me wonder what they are really scared of? Anyway, I do hope you are around for 2015 and I'm sure there will be plenty who will want to discuss any aspect of the Waterloo campaign with you, should you make a post on the topic. Sadly, I won't be one of them because I'm now edging into 1813 mode and my target research is set for that period. The only reason I won't discuss Waterloo is because I don't want to be distracted, as enjoyable as I'm sure it might be. But I sincerely wish you all the best for the New year. |

Whirlwind the insult protester-making an insult! And also making a post to someone they've stifled! That might be considered as a case for being sent to the dawghouse, if I was silly enough to take what he said seriously? Anyway, there seems to be a job going. Anyone interested in being a Gazzolawatcher? |

Davout – sorry to hear about your situation, and that there wasnt enough Waterloo discussion for you. (In my case it would be because I didnt actually know anything beyond the basic outline). Are you familiar with Project Hougoumont – projecthougoumont.com They used to have a lively Facebook group as well. Gazzola – you are mostly first with the digs and insults, hence your record stifle count. Perhaps you need to try for a bit of new year self-knowledge. (You could always stifle me if you like – my count is only middling :) ) |

Imrael As Davout1972 says, you don't know what tomorrow will bring, that's why I don't complain about the insults thrown at me, most of which are far worse than anything I have ever said and some very personal. Life's too short to take silliness like that seriously. But I do find it distasteful when people post to me knowning full well I could not reply and also when they made a post and then put me on stifle. It is so childish! And most of the insults thrown at me are because I have dared to disagree because I have actually researched the topic and found a mass of material that goes against their posts, which some people just don't like and can't cope with. I think some people were not expecting anyone to actually go off and research the topic and may have been too used to people just agreeing with them. And some people may have believed we should all be impressed and not argue with them because of who they are. But that would also be absurd. If they are incorrect or if someone has a different viewpoint, then they have a right to disagree and express their viewpoint, no matter who it is with. And you have to ask yourself what sort of people kept making posts after I have said I did not want to debate the topic further and on more than one occasion? Perhaps debate was not their real motive? But this thread is rapidly turning into a Gazzloa rant, so I'll say no more and wish you the best for 2013. |

Davout sorry to read about your situation. |

Davout – best wishes to you. Gazzola – shush. |
Gazzola | 02 Jan 2013 11:08 a.m. PST |
Peeler If someone posts to me or says something about me I will reply. And considering this is NOT YOUR website, you have NO RIGHT to suddenly pop up and tell people to be quiet. But if you don't want me to post, don't mention my name – easy if you think about it. But perhaps you should think more about what Davout said in his post. There are more important things in life, like your health etc. And as someone who had a health scare not so long ago, I know exactly what he means and what is really important in life. |

Thankyou for the advice, you do give a lot of it. Being an online forum, I can of course pop up & post "shush" if I wish. I think your posts, apart from your opnions, are rather rude & antagonistic. Have a reread & see what you think. |
Gazzola | 04 Jan 2013 3:41 a.m. PST |
Peeler Obviously you have not thought about what Davout posted, which was one of the best, albeit saddest, posts placed on this website. But it is so amusing when people like yourself pop up at the end of a thread, in which they contribued absolutely nothing. Either you just don't want this thread to end or you are after the Gazzolawatcher job? If so, have a word with Whirlwind, he'll fill you in on the details. |

A few assumptions there. Thanks for the entertainment. :) |

Davout1972, There are still many, many, many people here who are happy to discuss the great battle of Waterloo, so if you have any more questions you should fire them off. I'm sure you will continue to get some brilliantly informed replies. As always with TMP you will also get people trying to dismiss or derail the topic as well as infighting, bickering & hurt feelings, but you can distill the good stuff from all the background noise. The Napoleonic boards continue to be a wealth of information & insight, in my opinion. I have certainly enjoyed reading your posts over the last few months. All the best, James |
