I am working on a command element that will have Rommel as hte main character, and am wondering what color his overcoat should be. I don't know if it makes any difference for the overcoat, but it is for Europe when he commanded the forces in Normandy. I have been tyring to study pictures, both in color and in black and white, and it seems to be dark gray in some and black in others. Does anyone have anything finite on this color, and I am also assuming it was a leather overcoat? As a side I have seen him in two different scarves – one a sort of solid off white and the other a sort of plaid. Thanks for the help, Terry |

If James Mason isn't proof, I don't know what is. |

He's often seen wearing the smart field gray wool number with green collar and red lapels
General-officers also wore a grey-green leather greatcoat, usually purchased privately link |

I know he wore the plaid scarf in the desert. I think he wore some sort of leather overcoat in the desert at times as well. I have not seen either of those items from his time in Normandy, and I don't think it got cold enough to wear a scarf in June, July timeframe anyway. Overcoats are still seen then. |
