I have heard a lot of people say that the Star Craft board game is extremely expensive and I agree that it is a sizable investment. I do not know if people realize how much you actually get in the base game. For about $110 USD on average the base game contains First of all Figures
/ Zerg 18 bases of Zerglings each containing two models, 12 Hydrolisk, 6 Defilers & 6 Ultralisks + Fliers 6 Mutalisks, 6 Bases of Scourges 2 models per base, 6 Queens & 6 Guardians 90 usable figures for 15mm
/ Protoss 12 Zealots, 6 Dragoons, 6 High Templars, 6 Archons & 6 Reavers,+ Fliers 6 Scouts, 6 Arbiters & 6 Carriers 24 usable figures plus 18 to 30 Drones
/ Terran Figures 12 Marines, 6 Ghosts, 6 Firebats, 6 Vultures, 6 Goliaths& 6 Siege Tanks,+ Fliers 6 Wraiths, 6 Science Vessels & 6 Battle Cruisers 30 usable figures 18 to 24 drones & 6 convert-able hover cycles

That is 144 usable figures for three distinct Armies with up to 54 possible drones & remotes & finally 6 Hover Cycles to add riders to available just in the figures. This assuming you are only playing 15mm & no other scale.

The Planet Tiles & Navigation Routes both Normal & Z-Axis can be used as Campaign Aides as can many other tokens & markers that come with the game.

I found it well worth the investment & I am building all 3 forces but only have my Zerg started as I play Large engagements. A link to my Zerg force in progress as I just got the rest of the army under a month ago follows.

If you get a chance, it would be great if you could take some pics of these figs against 15mm figures. I hear what you're saying, but I'd appreciate getting an idea of compatibility before dropping up to $110. USD

I to would appreciate a pic of both the FF mini's and the more affordable risk mini's next to 15mm stuff (your riek force, for example)

I'll Take some Comparison Pics Tonight & Try to get them Posted on My Blog Tomorrow. I have to Dig out My Protoss as I Haven't Started To Mount them Up. I will Identify Where Each Group of Figures Comes From. Risk, The Base Star Craft The Board Game Or the Brood War Expansion & unless you are Buying the Game to play the Board Game Do not Bother with the Typhon Expansion as it only comes with 1 Planet Tile & some Special rule as I understand it & no Figures. The Small Walker, Tracked Drone & all the Fliers in My Riek force are all from the Board Game except 1 Flier is from the Expansion. This post has zergling & an Ultralisk next to some Khurasan Neo-Arabs but I was still Learning to use my camera so the pics not as good as my later pics. link I will post a Link for comparison Pics once I get the post up. Will do pics with various 15mm Figs I have at hand. will be up by end of day 15 Nov 2012.

You sir are a gentleman, thank you.

Also, there is now a StarCraft: Risk game that's just been released. It has 3 different sculpts for each race IIRC. Don't know if they are compatible with the figs from the FFG game but you get a good number of Marines, Zealots, zerglings and hydralisks.

Timothy V15 Nov 2012 2:46 p.m. PST

The Zerg models for the risk game are second class compared to the ones for the Board Game & the marines are slightly short for 15mm but close enough to use & work as light Infantry for The FFG Marine forces Power Armor troops the best of the Risk Figures are the Protoss which are good for 15mm & as they are aliens can be used with the FFG figs as Basic troops,& the FFG troops are elites as they are larger & Stronger. I got part of the Zerg comparison Pics Done before my cameras battery died & will post more once the battery has a Chance to Charge. The link bellow will take you to Part 1 of the Comparison Posts on my Blog. link Sorry I didn't get more done yet.

I will be using all the figures from the risk game to fill out my armies & unfortunately it is only 2 Sculpts + 2 different Heroes for each race & the heroes are very nice models.

McWong7315 Nov 2012 5:31 p.m. PST

These do look darn good for 15mm don't they!

BTW – there's a figure of what looks like an officer wearing a field cap with his arm out holding a pistol – what range is that from?

Thanks for doing this Timothy, really grateful.

Timothy V15 Nov 2012 8:13 p.m. PST

I have posted the rest of the Zerg Comparison pics, & the Terran Marines I did a quick grouping for them & will do better Pics for them later. The two links are bellow

& I believe the sergeant wearing the field cap & pistol is from Khurasan from his Red Faction I just reposed him. I usually repose 90 to 95% of my models to give me maximum variety in my armies as I prefer to play Company Level games & Above.

McWong7315 Nov 2012 10:40 p.m. PST

Looking at the pics, I'm finidng the Zerg to have the most potential in that (from what you've show us) nearly all the figures have a use in 15mm scale, whereas the Terran's flyers and vehicles would only work as drones.

Timothy V16 Nov 2012 12:50 a.m. PST

I have posted group shots of the Protoss for Scale comparison as I did with the Terran Marines Once again these are just to show the size of the models compared to 15mm Figures. link

The Protoss are a little better than the Terran Marines when it come to flexibility of use but most of there vehicles would be used as drones and being aliens you can use all the figure from both games together if you wish.

I think I left out a couple of Figure The Marine Ghost female Sniper, & at least one Protoss ground vehicle Sorry I will fix this when I redo the Pics over the next couple of Days.

The nice thing about the FFG Marines is that the are Large enough to be used as Power Armor and amazingly look a lot like Critical Mass Star Marines.

The Zerg Figures are why I Got the Game in th First Place. AS I Said at the Beginning 144 usable figures & 54 possible drone + 6 hover bikes to put riders on. My Zerg stand at 3 base Games & 2 Expansions + risk Game. & check ebay I think there are 2 expansions for sale under $40.00 USD US. Link to ebay item auction If your interested.
