"Here is a summary work about 14 officers of infantry and cavalry which fought against the local guerrilla in Mexico (1862-1867). This list is not exhaustive and it is welcome to complete it. This body of irregular varied in its composition and its staff during its five years of existence, but its mission has always remained the same: to fight the enemy on his land, with its own weapons and to not hesitating to use the same means to won them. The goal was not to make a clean war but to made an effective one. Against the counted-guerrile in March 1863 it included a unit of 70 infantry and 80 cavalry. In June 1864, it included two cavalry squadrons (260 riders), two infantry companies (290 men), 1 artillery section consists of two mountain pieces and an ambulance. These band was composed in its infancy adventurers of all nationalities since there were up to 22 different of them: French, Greek, Spanish, Mexican, American, northern and southern, French, Piedmontese, Neapolitan, Dutch, Swiss … this new way of war quickly drew soldiers released from their obligations and the best elements of the French army were seduced by the life of adventures. Officers are not left behind. Most became from the African troops whatsoever for infantry (2nd and 3rd Zouaves) as well as for the cavalry (1st and 3rd regiment of Chasseurs d'Afrique) troops who fought in all theaters of operations in the years 1850-1860. Some, such as Pine or Galliffet are exceptional officers whose actions became atypical among the most iconic military show in our history…"
