I am holidaying in the States for the next month and will be in NYC in the towards the end of this month. Are there any clubs in Manhattan or surrounds that i could visit? What are the big stores in NYC as well? |

I don't know if you have been keeping up, but Mother Nature has been crapping all over NYC and the surrounding area. They are still having a very tough time of it with homes that have been destroyed or flooded, loss of power, loss of subway services, gas rationing, etc. Rescue and emergency service folks from all over the country have been responding to help out. The place will still look like a warzone when you are there. |

Field Marshal. Yes, there are game stores. Some were impacted more than others by the hurricane. Best bet is to contact the folks at thewarstore.com and ask them about what is in available and open around there. Neal and staff are good folks. While his operation is out on Long Island, he knows who is who and what is what with the gaming in the area. Good luck! |

The War Store is a great place and if you can get there do so. But if you are in NYC (Manhattan). The war store is over 90 miles away on Long Island a 2+ hour drive in good traffic. |

In NYC itself the best is "The Compleat Strategist". A little outside the city in NJ is "Maplewood Hobby". Maplewood hobby has a large miniatures section, while Compleat Strategist is almost all boardgames – although they have the games workship (I think) miniatures as well. As others have pointed out, the area got hit hard by Sandy and now snow, so not a great time to go for a vacation. |

You have the Brooklyn Gamers Basement- a pre-WW2 style Brownstone cellar in the a trendy part of Brooklyn. For a small monthly fee, you can breathe in secondhand cigar smoke and dust while you freeze your watuzi off and play some boardgames with an eccentric cast of characters. Good Luck with that! :^) link |

Combatpainter painted a very accurate picture of the Metropolitan Wargames Club in my hometown of Brooklyn, New York, but he left out the best part, which is it's not just home to board games and board gamers, but tons of miniatures as well, complete with at least one sand-table, shelves full of miniatures, and stacks of terrain -- at least the last time I was there. |

Yeah, check out the Metro Wargamers club in Brooklyn. nycwargames.com It's reachable via the F train, about 30 minutes into Brooklyn – now that they pumped the river water out of the tunnel. And do visit the Strategist in Manhattan. Much of Manhattan doesn't look like a war zone any more, except downtown (Wall Street and the Battery), where contractors are busy pumping out basements of corporate towers. Low lying areas along the rivers still have evidence of Sandy. Numerous housing developments still don't have heat. And every now and then power utility workers are digging up the streets with large machines, refurbishing the power system. The worst damage is in Staten Island, the Rockaways and the Jersey Shore. They just found another body on Staten Island, bringing the total dead in the city up to 42. |
