Finally released to the interwebs: YouTube link I'm not expecting a faithful adaptation of one of my favourite novels, but it does looks damn good. I also appreciate that a film about the Zombie apocalypse will actually show us said zombie apocalypse (yes Walking Dead, I'm talking to you!) Time to get all my zombies out and get painting! |
Katzbalger | 08 Nov 2012 6:46 p.m. PST |
Runners not shamblers--I don't remember that from the book (but it has been a while since I read it). Rob |
McWong73 | 08 Nov 2012 6:48 p.m. PST |
Yeah, shamblers in the book. |

Ehhhh
not crazy about the rolling zombie wave effect. Makes the whole thing feel less like 'horde of zombies' and more like 'the blob made of zombies'. |

Fast zombies..AGAIN! Meh
The book is so good too

The book is good writing, irrespective of genre. I'll reserve judgment of the film till I see it, but you'd have to be made of jelly not to find that trailer exciting! But yeah, it would of been a great project for a HBO mini series. |
Thornhammer | 08 Nov 2012 7:25 p.m. PST |
I don't mind fast zombies one bit. Looks good. |

I don't mind fast zombies one bit. Looks good. >> They're TOO fast!! Bob |
GoneNow | 08 Nov 2012 7:29 p.m. PST |
Yeah they lost me when the zombies came running out the door. I am so tired of running zombies. I guess Brooks must have given up any sort of meaningful input in the writing/filming because this doesn't look anything like his books or the zombies he described. If your going to make a film that has nothing to do with the source material (other then a couple names or locations) why try to tie it to the source? Why not just take those last couple steps and make it 100% "something else" and save your royalties? |

I have no problem with fast zombies. I just don't care for hokey effects. That wave thing is just
bad. |
Ron W DuBray | 08 Nov 2012 7:56 p.m. PST |
I had some hope for this movie but not any more. The way the zeds attack and move (tidal wave of super zombies) they would kill them self's off faster then they could make replacements. |
CorSecEng | 08 Nov 2012 8:00 p.m. PST |
a lot of these scenes looked like rough cgi cuts. They might be cleaning up the zombie hordes later. |
mrwigglesworth | 08 Nov 2012 8:09 p.m. PST |
I hate CG zombies! They looks so fake! |
Pijlie | 08 Nov 2012 8:42 p.m. PST |
Meh. More unnessecary "creative" tinkering with an excellent book by filmmakers who are not satisfied until they have done their little pee over something too. The zombietsunami is ridiculous. The zombies are not only undead, but they evolve an entire new modus of locomotion as well? Whatever floats your boat, but this is a movie I don't need. |
John the OFM | 08 Nov 2012 8:47 p.m. PST |
Max Brooks' dad is well versed in Hollywood. His advice to his son was probably "Cash the check, son. FAST!" The first thing anybody thought who has read thebook and heard it was to be a movie was disbelief and to call it unfilmable. Brad bought the title and the right to do with it whatever he wanted. |
Ed the Two Hour Wargames guy | 08 Nov 2012 9:00 p.m. PST |
After looking at the trailer it look like a Bug movie. |
Kyn ell | 08 Nov 2012 9:01 p.m. PST |
I'll hold my opinions on this till later. I agree that the zombie swarms look poor, since when have zombies moved like that? Never mind runners, they look like "spillers"! Maybe Max's dad, Mel might have done a better movie. I can see it now
.Mel Brook's Zombies, done in his usual comedic style! |
Tgunner | 08 Nov 2012 9:04 p.m. PST |
Any similarities between this movie and the book are purely coincidental
This isn't WWZ, so I'll pass. |
Oddball | 08 Nov 2012 9:52 p.m. PST |
The only thing the same between the book and this movie is the title. Looks terrible. |
Tango01 | 08 Nov 2012 9:59 p.m. PST |
Quite interesting
I like and read this thread but wonder to know were are the legion of "pointers" that everyday are pointing my threads when they had been commented before. You can see that in this new forum (Horror Media) there are two threads commenting the same movie. One is mine, but it's before of our friend McWrong 73 own. If the case had been reversed, I'm quite sure that those legion of "pointers" wrote these link to inform me that it was posted before. Maybe the more of 300 visits of these thread not included a single "pointer"? Or maybe the "pointers" only want to work with my threads? Just a thought and a case that I had see a lot of times in TMP and now want to "point". Amicalement Armand |

"Pile of Zombies" probably didn't grab the attention as much. |

"After looking at the trailer it look like a Bug movie." -Ed Yup. Looks like those ants that build interlinking chains and bridges with themselves. Still, I'll see it on DVD. Best, JBR |

Tango01, McWong73 doesn't do it on a regular basis. Also, in a refreshing moment of clarity for this place, he actually titled his topic 'World War Z Trailer'. |

Only took a look at the titles, truly sorry for any offence Tango |

maybe its time for a change to the zombie meta for the 21C. I liked it

Mick A | 09 Nov 2012 3:22 a.m. PST |
Think it's funny how some people say the zombies are 'wrong', how can they be wrong? They're fictional creatures that are open to individual interpretation. It's like saying if an Orc isn't green it's wrong
No it won't be anything like the book but it does look like it will be worth watching. Mick |
Timothy V | 09 Nov 2012 4:08 a.m. PST |
I'll agree that it will be worth watching , but when you are doing a project based on an established Background you should stay true to that Background. It has been quite a while since I read the book but I remember 1 of the interviews was with a man who survived by out running the Zombies along with many others & with fast Zombies that entire part of the background will be nullified. That is one example Why a fictional creature can be wrong & not fit into a specific established Background, but you are right they are open to individual interpretations. I just get tired of Movies Claiming to be X when they ignore the established Fiction & are in truth not actually X Creating a second Version of X. It's a Zombie Movie I must see it. |
NoBodyLovesMe | 09 Nov 2012 4:34 a.m. PST |
I'd have preferred a movie closer to the book given the name tie-in (and how good the book was) but holy heck those zombies in the trailer sure are scary! |
corporalpat | 09 Nov 2012 4:55 a.m. PST |
How do they not run out of zombies? Looks a bit too unbelievable. Then again, I watched Abraham Lincoln vs Zombies. YouTube link Unfortunately, World War Z does not look to be much better, it just has a bigger budget. |
Mr Elmo | 09 Nov 2012 4:59 a.m. PST |
The zombies seem too
fluid. When will it be on Netflix? |
moocifer | 09 Nov 2012 5:53 a.m. PST |
Thanks for the informatively titled thread McWong73. Perhaps instead of Have to agree with other comments too, thought I was watching a "bug" movie trailer at first. |
Eclipsing Binaries | 09 Nov 2012 6:05 a.m. PST |
Weird seeing George Square in Glasgow being overrun by zombies
even though that's what its usually like on a Saturday night. |
flicking wargamer | 09 Nov 2012 6:29 a.m. PST |
A fast zombie is not a zombie. It is a ghoul. They are going for the same effect that ruined the last Lord of the Rings movie, a tidal wave of undead. That ruined that movie for me too. Looked more like an attack of army ants than an undead army. Same thing here. I am
diappointed. |
Moqawama | 09 Nov 2012 7:12 a.m. PST |
the book was bad but the movie is going to be even worse |
Vampifan01 | 09 Nov 2012 7:27 a.m. PST |
That looks utter pants! Fast zombies – bleurgh! But super fast zombies? Someone's having a laugh
and it sure ain't me! |
Flashman14 | 09 Nov 2012 7:28 a.m. PST |
I think it looks great! I liked the book but am not super attached to that narrative. Nothing kills hope like fast zombies in those kinds of numbers. Slow ones are almost comforting. |
Scorpio | 09 Nov 2012 8:03 a.m. PST |
I have no problem with fast zombies. I just don't care for hokey effects. That wave thing is just
bad. Start thinking out the physics. Running zombies, sure. Ones climbing over the first row have to be moving faster, and climb just as fast, to keep the 'wave motion' going. The row behind them, even faster, and again losing no momentum when they have to go uphill and accelerate over to keep the wave going. The ones behind them, evenly spaced, but moving and climbing *even faster*
I don't have a problem with running zombies. I have a problem with poorly-thought through special effects. Bad enough they're not filming the excellent book this is based on. But punting on the uncanny valley? Lame. |
Patrick Sexton | 09 Nov 2012 8:16 a.m. PST |
Sorry folks, I found that to be truly chilling. I am now much more enthused about the movie than I had been. Damn, that was fantastic. |
PatrickWR | 09 Nov 2012 8:19 a.m. PST |
What a strange trailer. They never show a closeup of a single, scary zombie. Nobody ever uses the word "zombie," or "ghoul" or "infected" or anything that would suggest there is something wrong with a huge percentage of the world's population. And of course the title, "World War Z," is cryptic to say the least. I wonder what a casual movie-goer would think upon seeing this trailer. Probably something like "What is this movie about, then?" |
richarDISNEY | 09 Nov 2012 8:20 a.m. PST |
Notice how they NEVER mentioned 'zombies' in that trailer?
 |
nazrat | 09 Nov 2012 8:45 a.m. PST |
I think it looks great, and VERY scary. All the talk about fast zombies being "wrong", and especially criticizing the believability or the science of them is utterly absurd. |
nazrat | 09 Nov 2012 9:01 a.m. PST |
"Notice how they NEVER mentioned 'zombies' in that trailer?" Ever notice that in three seasons of the Walking Dead they haven't done so, either? Does it matter? |
(I make fun of others) | 09 Nov 2012 9:02 a.m. PST |
No need to see the film now, the whole thing's in the trailer -- **Apoc begins whilst Pitt is in mini-SUV with kids and the detective from The Killing **Scary scenes in that city **Eventually evacuated to a carrier **Goes on some kind of mission to the big climax Why do they do this? Same thing on American telly, they are DETERMINED to tell you half of the story on the next week's Walking Dead for instance when this week's is over. |
Eli Arndt | 09 Nov 2012 9:31 a.m. PST |
These stories are using zombies as a backdrop for human stories. This version's zombies seem to have reduced them to human form army ants. They are swarming over everything, piling up in living ladders and such. -Eli |
jgawne | 09 Nov 2012 10:32 a.m. PST |
Yeah, I'm kind of baffled by what I see. Why buy the book rights at all when you are making a different story? It seems ot me that they just wanted the book title for the film (much like they bought a book just to get the title 'Close Encounters'). But, I mean, this is just kind of stupid. I mean, call it "The Wave" or "The Swarm" or some such nonsense and its just as good. |
Tango01 | 09 Nov 2012 11:05 a.m. PST |
Oh!. No offense at all my dear friend McWong73. I had enjoyed reading your thread as I had said. I had not ANY problem with superimposed threads. Never. I enjoy each one because people wrote there many interesting things. Only in these case (pure chance) I decided to point the difference of actitude of some people about that situation with my own threads. People I consider malicious and with some lack of education. By the way, Mr. moocifer as I always do here from the day one, I inform you that I had stifle you. Hope you continue posting your very good threads McWong73! Amicalement Armand |
jtkimmel | 09 Nov 2012 11:17 a.m. PST |
Very disappointed it doesn't even remotely look like the book, which I enjoyed a lot. The zombie wave thing looked weird. |
