I've got two reviews up on my blog, one for the excellent Metachronopolis short stories I have just read ( link ), and one for a pretty decent rewrite of Return of the Jedi I found on the internet ( link )
Enjoy!

Thanks for that RotJ re-write, that's interesting stuff. Not sure I agree with all he did too, but he avoided the dark side that Lucas fell into.

Originally the Wookies were supposed to be the force in the final battle, not Ewoks, but Lucas felt that they had become too technological in the other films to fit the living in trees in the forest idea he originally had (And which they did do in the rotten Star Wars Christmas special – R2D2 FISH!!!). People wanted Boba Fett to have a bigger role, so they gave him one in the prequels by having his father there instead.

Killing Han would have been a mistake. Grieviously wounding Han would have been better. Still allows Chewbaca to go nuts on someone. Chewbaca gets more and more marginalized.

Hey, they can't do everything. They only had 3 hours.

Interesting RotJ ideas. Some better, some worse…. but I really like the ending (luke on tatooine as 'new Obi-Wan'). No way should Han be killed off! Bobba Fett is a popular character, but really pretty minor: his death should have been more 'heroic', but still not given 'main character status'… Luke vs. Vader was well done in 'Return', but that whole 'AND the princess is your sister…' could go… loss of suspension of disbelief there.
Now someone should rewrite the 'prequels'…. oh wait, they would be unrecognizable. In fact, better to wipe the idea from the time-space continuum.

I re-wrote the prequel timeline in a fit of annoyance once, and posted it last year on my blog:

I paste this into all of my SW files to remind me of the original SW background we were able to tease apart from Episodes 4-6, and a bit from the Thrawn triology. More than anything, it was to make Anakin/Darth older (~55) in Episodes 4-6 and to make sure the Clone Wars were AGAINST clones, not with them.

Nice stuff, boy wunder x…. yes, against clones makes sense. Darth older, too. I also believe (heretically) that the story would be better without the whole 'family affair': Darth is NOT Luke's father, he is just a real bad-ass who betrayed the jedi, Luke is an unlikely hero who must avenge his father. Keep it more 'space opera' and less 'Dynasty'…. I would like to do some 'rewrites' myself, but am sick and jaded w/ StarWars by now… (still, the old childhood sticks, 'episode 4' is still a great stand-alone movie).
