Interesting work from this french guy about the Pre-Columbian wars. He said: " The Bacabs were Atlanteans, four in number, four brothers who support the sky over the Mayans
They are associated with the four cardinal points and with the fertility. Adding that they can also be associated with the canopy of heaven that they support."
"The Atlanteans of Tula are four stone giants lined up side-by-side. They are located on the lower deck of a pyramid with four degrees, a "Teocalli" which is accessed by a staircase. They measure all five meters high and are probably mythical warriors of "Aztlán.""

I hope the blog author isn't conflating statues of Toltec warriors (complete with ichcahuipilli and atl-atl) at Tula with ancient Maya gods. There is no correlation between them. Later in the Post Classic period there was some blending of Mayan and "Mexicanized" elements in the art and architecture. This can be seen when contrasting the "old" and "new" versions of Chichen Itza. |
