I would like to hear from others who have built 10mm armies for Lord of the Rings. If my questions have been previously answered on TMP, I apologize. I searched but couldn't find any posts that address these questions. (The TMP search feature kept "timing out" on me, so I just scrolled through the Fantasy boards instead.)

The figures from Copplestone Castings look very good on their website. I was thinking about using their Horse Tribe figures for Rohan and their City Spearmen and Archers for Gondor.

However, I don't see any mounted City figures for Gondor cavalry. I would like some cavalry figures that match the City Spearmen and City Archers. I especially like how the Copplestone figures match the LOTR movie(s), and I like the shield decals available from Toshach Miniatures.

Also, I don't see any Elves or Dwarves (except for the Legolas and Gimli figures in their Halflings & Heroes package). I may want to add armies for these races. At the very least, I would like some Elvish Archers for Helm's Deep.

What other figures are compatible with the Copplestone figures? It would be great if any other Gondor or Rohan figures are available that can use the decals from Toshach Miniatures.

I know about Pendraken and Magister Militum from their websites. Do they match up well with Copplestone in style and size?

Any others besides Pendraken and MM to consider?

Thanks.

No specific answers but some thoughts.

The Copplestone figures are very nice, and are at the slighter end of 10mm size wise.

Pendraken historical figures will fit well, their dark ages and medieval ranges should provide good figures. Pendraken fantasy figures are rather large, they could be called 12mm, so not a good source of Dwarfs or Hobbits as they are bigger than the humans! Norman cavalry might work for Gondor? Or the late roman figures?

MM have nice figures, they are similar height wise to CS, but are bulkier. MM cavalry have quite small horses to may match well to CS.

TB line – nice figures, very detailed. Infantry should match up well, not certain about cav which have quite large horses.

GW Warmaster – probably the best source for Dwarfs and Elves, can often be found on eBay for much less than GW retail. Not the clearest picture but the Elf Archers have the look of the film, I think

GW Battle of Five Armies – now unfortunately OOP had lots of plastic figures there were some metal figures produced but these are very hard to get hold of. I have a hope (probably in vain) that the upcoming Hobbit movie might revive this line :-(

Check out Eureka's 10mm Fantasy stuff too. It fits in pretty good with the Copplestone stuff.

Worth a look at this:

There used to be a very useful site called Under The Mountain that had many 10mm comparison pics but the site is no more and I don't know if they've evolved into something else. Anyway, all the above posts/links should help to give you some ideas.

Cheers! TC.
