As topic said, how many of you use GW figures mounted for other rules systems as opposed to just for Warhammer? |
whill4 | 03 Nov 2012 5:46 a.m. PST |
Yes I do. I use them for AD&D Battlesystem |
The Last Conformist | 03 Nov 2012 5:46 a.m. PST |
Sold off most my Warhammer figures a couple years ago. The ones I've got left get used for HOTT and SBH; haven't played Warhammer itself in almost a decade. |
YogiBearMinis | 03 Nov 2012 5:52 a.m. PST |
I bought a bunch because I am stupid but also because I think they are gorgeous figures, but as I read the actual Warhammer rules I am not sure that I could enjoy the system compared to HoTT or Hostile Realms. |
Gonsalvo | 03 Nov 2012 6:01 a.m. PST |
So, use them with whatever rules you want if you like the figures! Unlike, say Napoleonics (which I love), no one is going to complain that they are wearing the wrong style lace or their flags aren't correct for the year, etc! :-) |

Never. But these days I rarely play WH, either. |
Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut | 03 Nov 2012 6:33 a.m. PST |
I rebase them to use for my on-and-off-again D&D campaign
|
IronMike | 03 Nov 2012 6:44 a.m. PST |
Yes I do. because they're the only fantasy figures I can buy in army-sized units without having to spend hideous amounts on P&P from the UK, and then have to wait 4-8 weeks for shipping
that is, IF the manufacturer decides that he's in business this month. |
timurilank | 03 Nov 2012 7:00 a.m. PST |
All my 15mm HOTT goblin/orc armies are GW. |
Privateer4hire | 03 Nov 2012 7:50 a.m. PST |
I use all my fantasy figs, regardless of maker, for Kings of War. Since KoW uses unit basing, I have a lot more options. |
Space Monkey | 03 Nov 2012 7:51 a.m. PST |
Yes. I played WFB for the first time only recently but I've been buying those figures for decades. |
richarDISNEY | 03 Nov 2012 7:51 a.m. PST |
For my rpgs

Yes, for 2nd Ed. BattleSystem, also. Fantasy, is fantasy. I bought some, years ago, off of e-Bay, for less than retail, as they were older figures. I also used, BattleMasters figures -- also GW,but a different game. They paint up nice, and they're easy to re-base by cutting off the rails, and gluing their feet. Only issue I had was they were too large for the AD&D monsters they represented, quite often. The Goblins are waaayyy too big for 4-foot-tall critters. Still, they looked great, and they painted up fast and easy. Cheers! |

For HOTT and Song of Blades & Heroes. |
gianpippo | 03 Nov 2012 8:40 a.m. PST |
Yes, for Mantic's Kings of War. |

Yes I have 500 painted space marines that I use for all kinds of things. along with a undead army, chaos army, and others. I have not played using GW rules since 1997. |

Oh, yes. When an Orkish horde invaded Canada through the Stargate in 1885, most of the horde was GW figures. Except for the Heartbreaker goblins. |
Crankee Doodle | 03 Nov 2012 10:50 a.m. PST |
Currently, all of mine are used with Song of Blades & Heroes. I haven't played Mordheim or WHFB in a long time. |
Buff Orpington | 03 Nov 2012 11:21 a.m. PST |
Yes, just about any fantasy game really. The only GW game I still play is Bloodbowl. Mind you I'm just about to paint up Westwind's Krelda the Hideous as a cheerleader for my Orc team. She get's to have her way with the MVP after each game. As she's bigger than the Black Orc blockers there's no chance of turning her down. |
John Leahy | 03 Nov 2012 11:29 a.m. PST |
Armies of Arcana. Haven't played Warhammer since 2nd for the most part. Thanks, John |

I didn't realise I was allowed to! Are you guys sure it's ok – I mean you're not allowed to use GW paints on other manufacturers figures so maybe this is wrong too? TFIC |

Does 'The Games Workshop hobby' permit GW figures to be used for mere fantasy wargaming? Expect an injunction from GW's lawyers
|
ordinarybass | 04 Nov 2012 9:37 a.m. PST |
Here's my SBH elf warband. Entirely made of 90's metal Warhammer figs (except the Mage Knight Unicorn). I really like that era of GW sculpting.

All the time. Any game for which the size and look work. That said, I'm the guy in our group who is always coming up with non-GW stuff. |
billthecat | 05 Nov 2012 9:41 a.m. PST |
Not only is it against the roolz to use non GW models in a GW game (assuming that such things exist, they are certainly of inferior quality), it is also against the rules to use GW miniatures with other (mythical and inferior) game systems. This is an essential part of the 'GW Hobby', and all of those 'other miniatures and games' are pale imitations of GW's IP. Sincerley, GW inc. P.S: The same goes for our paints, so don't even THINK about it

Yes. I use individual models for my fantasy RPG. |
