Interesting find. The diagram of the gun and crew is interesting as it seems to show both French style (Gribeauval) gun carriages and a British style single block trail. The deployed gun seems to have a French style "A" frame limber whereas the British style gun in prolonge seems to show a British style limber. The caisson looks like a British style limber pulling a second wagon which looks larger than the normal British extra limber. The picture also shows the artillery train. I have never yet seen anything else for this so this is evidence for the barretina with the plume on the left side. The riders seem to have white or pale grey overalls. Here is the question,is there any other evidence for the uniform and headgear of the Portuguese train? |
