You may liked/hated the prequels, claimed George destroyed your childhood memories, etc…
but he is a TRUE CLASS ACT HERO !

George is keeping no money out of the sale…
George Lucas is giving away all $4 USD billion from the sale of Lucasfilm to charity.

Wow – that is impressive. We should all say thank-you.

"Thank-you, George."

zippyfusenet01 Nov 2012 1:31 p.m. PST

Thank you, George.

Volstagg Vanir01 Nov 2012 1:32 p.m. PST

Might also make note that there is some small difference
between "Giving it All Away" and
using it to fund His Own charitable foundation & activities.
Not Hatin': Just Sayin'.

NOLA Chris01 Nov 2012 1:45 p.m. PST

You can make good money off "Charitable Foundations"
good payroll, nice bonuses, sweet perks…
George isn't dumb.

Skeptical Chris

Mako1101 Nov 2012 2:13 p.m. PST

Good for him.

What's unclear to me is this just the movie rights, and he still owns rights to all the other stuff, e.g. toy merchandising, games, costumes, etc., or did those go to Disney as well?

Ghostrunner01 Nov 2012 2:36 p.m. PST

No way $4 USDB didn't include merchandising.

Heck, hard now to harp on the guy for messing with the Cantina scene…

Is $4,000,000,000.00 USD enough to convince us that Greedo shot first?

Warwick1301 Nov 2012 3:17 p.m. PST

No amount of money can bleach that horrible scene from my brain. Han shot first!

Gabriel Landowski Fezian01 Nov 2012 7:11 p.m. PST

Thank you George.

(And Han greased that friggin' pig first…)

Wolfprophet01 Nov 2012 8:05 p.m. PST

Where's my cut? I can find a way to live off a measly 5 mil for the next 15-20 years. Or more if I properly invest a nice chunk of it.

And yet…

To the Blue Fez with ye, OFM! For even thinking of suggesting that his politics and his own practices are not in sync! grin

Mako1101 Nov 2012 8:29 p.m. PST

Yep, Han shot first, but I can't really blame him, given the situation.

Besides, he is supposed to be an outlaw, right?

Revisionist history, so he doesn't embarass the princess is unacceptable in my book.

Ah John, I'm not sure that you can fink on yourself.

Somehow, it doesn't seem right to deny that pleasure to others who may wish to do that in your place.

Mardaddy01 Nov 2012 8:41 p.m. PST

OFM, at first glance, he's saving himself about $280 USDM in taxes, but even so, will still have to shell out $600 USDM+ to, "the spending beast."

Mick A02 Nov 2012 3:00 a.m. PST

To the synics out there, even if it goes to charities he runs it still means someone else deserving will be benefitting from the sale rather than just him, so good on George!

Haven't looked at the tax rates locally, for that level of income, and probably depends upon his tax attorneys' quality, etc.

However, if he's still a resident of the PRC, People's Republic of California, then he will probably be paying 10% plus on that money alone, which may add considerably to the above figure.

Even more, if the state leadership here gets their way on Tuesday.

Add in a lot more, with the Fed rate.

ordinarybass02 Nov 2012 5:52 a.m. PST

This is a Tripple win.

-George steps out of the drivers seat.
-3-4 billion for Educational charities.
-A sale that will send another couple hundred million to the government. (No irony here. I like taxes.)

Way to be classy George!

John the OFM02 Nov 2012 6:16 a.m. PST

Good for you. You can pay mine.

The Force is strong with this one.

ordinarybass03 Nov 2012 10:20 a.m. PST

Well said gentleman, I got a good laugh out of the responses after mine.

Way to cleverly point out that I should have said "I like to pay my taxes and for everyone else to pay theirs too."

John the OFM03 Nov 2012 11:13 a.m. PST

You like to pay your taxes? Oh, you sad, sick person. grin
I love having someone else spend my money the most inefficient way possible too!

chromedog05 Nov 2012 12:18 a.m. PST

@JohntheOFM: SO you don't give your wife any money?

billthecat05 Nov 2012 10:19 a.m. PST

Heroic? I think not. Just PR for an already VERY wealthy man.
Besides, his big steaming pile of 'art' is still mediocre at best, at least since the Ministry of Truth had Greedo shooting at Han…
You can't buy my respect with money OR American Express, George.
