Looking for some suggestions.

I've bought a bunch of 40mm Vikings Saxon and Norman tugs from Graven Images and Sash & Saver for Pig Wars skirmish gaming (the eyesight is liking bigger figs more and more). Thought I should at least consider getting the number of figs rounded out to where I could do Hastings and Stamford Bridge. Maybe I could scale it so 1 figure equals a full base for FOG or Impetus etc. Cant afford 1000 figs and such. But I could get close to 100+ figs per side.

So could I get some OOB suggestions from the experts out there? How many figs and what ratios? Without my going completely broke. And considering I'd use a 6x12 table.

There are no hard and fast answers in this period. The 'best guess' for Hastings is that each side had somewhere in the region of 6000 to 8000 men. William's army probably broke down something like 2000 mounted 'knights', 800 archers, the rest infantry mostly armed with spear and shield, some of whom wore a mail hauberk.

Harold's army may have had about 2000 huscarls with mail coats. The rest infantry, a few with mail, mostly armed with spears and shields.
