Tasty. And well timed. If they're as good as the Zouaves, they'll be very welcome. |
TKindred | 27 Oct 2012 2:45 p.m. PST |
Why yes, perfect timing for me
. I'm working to get some Ancients finished up so as to get back on track with my ACW project. These will be a welcome addition! |

Outstanding news! Thanks Armand, thats the best news I've had all week
And last year, they did make mention that the Union would also be getting the Right Shoulder Shift treatment in hard plastic at some point

These guys could double as Union troops I'm sure. I was hoping their plastic AWI infantry would be the next release, but these guys will do. |
Cardinal Hawkwood | 27 Oct 2012 11:28 p.m. PST |
they are all, or mostly in shell jackets? If so that sort of precludes them as union who are usually in sack coats |
Griefbringer | 28 Oct 2012 1:54 a.m. PST |
I was hoping their plastic AWI infantry would be the next release Back in July, the Perrys mentioned on their website that the release order for the plastics would be as follows: 1.) Austrian infantry 2.) ACW confederate infantry 3.) AWI British infantry So we will probably see the AWI infantry released by Salute 2013 by the latest. That said, anybody having an idea what happened to the plastic Napoleonic Prussian reserve infantry concept that was displayed by the twins in Salute 2011? Those seem to have totalyl disappeared from their plastic workbench at some point. |

No news about the reserve infantry but I hope they will reappear soon and will be available just after AWI brithish infantry |

What do you think? What I think is: (1) I'm Bloody Annoyed that these are so much better than the originals! (2) I'm Bloody Annoyed there are no Union coming out at the same time! |
HammerHead | 28 Oct 2012 5:12 a.m. PST |
Wow I`m just pleased that they have finally been released, I have bought most of what I need at the moment. They have been ready for some time. Yes the Union troops were announced at the same Salute. AWI & WW2 before then. |

Just as a "for what it's worth", There's no problem painting these as federal troops. Several states issued shell jackets to their regiments, especially out west. Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan etc are all known to have issued these at one point or another during the war. NY also issued a piped version for their infantry units at least through 1862. These could also be used from 1864-65 as "Veteran Volunteer Infantry" units, as many of these men privately purchased unpiped mounted services jackets as a mark of their status. It wasn't just relegated to them, however. There were other units as well as individuals who wore them, and similar shell jackets. SO
. feel free to paint up some Federals from these, because I know that I will be doing that. |

(1) I'm Bloody Annoyed that these are so much better than the originals! Considering that the original plastic ACW infantry was released in early 2008, and that the parties involved have had quite some practice since then, I think it would be very annoying if there would be no noticeable improvement to be found in this new set. |

Glad you had enjoy them boys!. Amicalement Armand |
Trajanus | 28 Oct 2012 11:09 a.m. PST |
Griefbringer, fair point but they still make all my units look like tailor shop dummies! |
HammerHead | 28 Oct 2012 11:25 a.m. PST |
TKindred there has been several photos of western federals on various post on TMP. They seem to favour the slouch hat rather than the kepi or forage cap. Would that be more accurate for them to wear a slouch hat as a unit. The plastic infantry box is ok, the box I have the most probs with is the cavalry. |
TKindred | 28 Oct 2012 2:01 p.m. PST |
To be honest, the whole "westerns favor hats more than caps is not all that accurate. It's really more of a unit/time/place thing. Either is accurate in the west and it's true that caps were more prevalent in the east, "generally", but there were certainly some units in the eastern theaters that favored hats over caps. Regardless, if you are painting generic Federals than this CS set with either caps or hats or a mix, would certainly work for many western and several eastern units. V/R |

OK, you learn something everyday! I hadn`t come across any Federal units that wore shell jackets, infantry that is. I knew that some heavy artillery units in 1864 were sent to fight as infantry. So some more research is needed, heck the CW only lasted 4 years & all this information about uniforms is so interesting. |

Also, here's a really nice article about those same shell jackets for infantry, as well as "private purchase" or "commercial" sack coats. link |
