What Vallejo color is best suited to paint both early and late war German infantry? I am having a problem finding the proper colors for the period. Any suggestions are welcome..thanks |

Early war uniforms were grey grey (as opposed to field grey), but the exact shade depends on the scale of figure you are painting. For 15s I use 'Sea Grey' with the usual washes, drybrushing etc. This is miuch lighter than the real uniform colour, bu tlooks OK on smaller scale figures. Late War uniforms were field grey (so more greenish). Without getting into the whole 'what colour was field grey' thing, something like 'German Uniform', which is darker, and ever so slightly greener than Sea Grey. Try to avoid the lurid green which passes for field grey, although green is fine for Jagers of course. |

Along the same line, do any of you experts have suggestions for painting 1914 German jaegers? I have trouble using Vallejo, so I'm hoping for a non-vallejo idea-maybe Model Masters? TIA |

Here is an excellent illustration that shows the variety of shades that a late war German uniform might have.

Uniforms worn in 1915. Early tunics with new 'stone grey' trousers.
One note is that the tunic in this case still has visible buttons, but the cuffs are plain. |
