Not sure how to phrase this, but has anyone seen any nmodels (or make a suggestion) as to Orks , but not in the 40K/Mantic mode of racous boyz or ragtag technology..

I want serious militaristic looking models , my concpet is that Orks have been a military disciplined force since Romanesque times , so think Legionary but with webbing and automatic weapons?

Thanks

Old school 40K models, if you can find the Stormboyz etc.

Disciplined/civilized space orcs of nonspecific kind might be doable*, but your request is not nonspecific isn't it?

You can find scifi legionaries in Urban Mammoth's Urban War lineup and if they seem too encrusted then a bit more clealined version in the progenitor line of VOID minis from Scotia Grendel. But I'm pretty sure they are too slim to look good with GW Ork heads. So you might have to try and find some orc heads that fit with smaller, baseline human bods if you want to go that route.

The other way to go about it that I can think of is take Cobalt-1 Aruks from Black Hat as a conversion base. They are bulky enough to go with GW Ork heads and their armour IMCO has a slightly Romanesque flavour. Requires choping off the orignal "earthworm" heads and prolly also replacing the rather simplistic weapons so it won't be either a very easy or a cheap route to take.

*) for example, it looks like the Spellcrow "future orcs" might work for a more militaristic approach instead of the GW/Mantic raucous space barbarian horde view -- but it's early days for those yet AFAIK:

You could try sticking LOTR orc heads on them, perhaps.

Did anyone do minis for the orc like things from 5th element ( mangalores or something ) ? If so, they may be of use .

As I recall, there are 15mm scale non-Mangalores available someplace. They might be a little on the small side tho the OP didn't specify the scale.

My 40k Orks use standard GW ones, with spikey bits removed, and British WW2 style headgear, and then webbing and backpacks adding. They look a lot more regular, but still battle hardened and tough nuts.

Take 40K Boyz, get rid of spikes (what few there are), give them uniform weapons & matching gear packs (bits available online),. Go to Kromlech and other 3rd party bits makers and find helmeted heads, get ones that are all similar. Give them a standard paint job with little to no individualization. Make a banner with Legionary-type iconography and several battle honors and streamers.

GZG makes Alien Mercs. Those are the non-mangalores. I got a few packs to make up an 15mm ork force.

If you go to Hoard o' Bits on ebay, you can get Wargames Factory orc heads cheaply and plentifully. These are not GW-style-

They are more human proportioned, so you can affix them to all kinds of other bodies. I am currently putting together a batch using spare plastic IG, Warzone, Defiance, and Wargames Factory figures, with a mishmash of sci fi weapons. They look hard, and tattered without looking cartoonish. I am very happy with them and cannot wait to paint them. Will post pics tonight.

In the meantime, to give you some idea of their versitility, take a look at some of the uses people have put these orc heads to in the Wargames Factory Mashup contest this year:

If you can find them, the metal Ork Kommandoes from GW are fantastic models:

The rather ape-like GW plastic Catachans with Mantic heads, maybe?

TurnStyle24 Oct 2012 12:33 p.m. PST

I suppose this also depends on your definition of Orc/Ork. In one of my dungeon crawl games, the term "Orc" is not actually a race, but a derogatory term for all manner of cross-bred humans, deformed or infected, or otherwise misshapen.

Thus, it could very well be (as mentioned above) Catachans with messed up Orc-y heads etc.

What game/setting are you using?

Rogue Trader era orks as suggested by TurnStyle.

I am using my own RPG background from an old Eclipse Phase game ,which has elements of pretty much anything I have seen brought in , we need to playa skirmish game for a plot I have worked on , with the pcs supplying intel from the RPG to teh commanders of 'our' forces vs invading corps who are using genetically devleoped 'O.R.C.S' to invade planets…

tbh I have no idea what the acronymn is yet ;)

CzarBLood24 Oct 2012 8:01 p.m. PST

I have been thinking about the orc heads , see what would fit on pig iron bodies…

Or rather ape-like Mantic Corporation troopers with WgF heads, for that matter (-:)

Not too legionairey but judging by OP's latest post that doesn't seem to have been a strict stipulation.

Not a lot of variety, but Red Shirt Games' Space Orx?:
