1. Sgt Bilko (Phil Silvers version)
2. Sgt Bilko (Steve Martin version)
3. Oddball (Kelly's Heroes)
4. Crapgame (Kelly's Heroes)
5. Sgt O'Rourke (F Troop)

Oddball, by a mile.

mex10mm23 Oct 2012 12:33 p.m. PST

Oddball lost all his command, 2 of his 3 shermans were knocked out and you do not see any survivors later in the movie so…..
I if I would like to live longer I would join Sgt. Bilko or even Crapgame units first. : )

Texas Jack23 Oct 2012 12:36 p.m. PST

IŽd go with Sgt OŽRourke and go smoke peace pipes with the indians. But I would point that damn cannon in another direction!

Dynaman878923 Oct 2012 12:48 p.m. PST

Wasn't Crapgame the supply sargeant? I'd go with him.

Razor7823 Oct 2012 12:52 p.m. PST

6. Col Hogan -- I'd love living in a POW camp, hanging with the guys, and blowing stuff up. And that wacky Col Klink…

redbanner414523 Oct 2012 12:56 p.m. PST

Sgt Bilko, a nice safe war.

O'Rourke by far.

O'Rourke, he never lost a man.

Considering they are all a bunch of malcontents, druckeberger, and bammelantin I would have to say none of them.

Commander McHale.
Who wouldn't like to buzz around Pacific islands in a PT boat.

Sundance23 Oct 2012 2:18 p.m. PST

McHale, hands down!

Charles Marlow23 Oct 2012 2:19 p.m. PST

From the list I'd choose: 4. Crapgame but I'd rather serve with Major John Reisman!

Dark Knights And Bloody Dawns23 Oct 2012 2:24 p.m. PST

Hotlips!

Katzbalger23 Oct 2012 2:34 p.m. PST

Commander McHale would be the best, but since he's not on the list, I'd go with Big Joe, since he's always worried about keeping his troops alive. Oh--never mind, he's not on the list either! Okay, how about Major Carter--'cause she's hot and you get to go exploring new worlds. Rats, she's not in the list either. Okay, Crapgame, then, 'cause at least you'll live through the war (assuming CID didn't nab your ass) and get a chance to tell your grandchildren that you shoveled Bleeped text in…

Oddball-He has a Tiger. And you know he'll put a US engine and transmission in it. (Another poll would be:how would Oddball 'accessorize' his Tiger?).

Since I resemble one or two of those characters, I would have to say Oddball.

I've had some NCOs like that, both as an O and as an enlisted man…

It's a toss up between carrying the Lewis Gun in a section of 'Dad's Army', and being drafted together with Andy Griffiths in 'No Time For Sergeants'.

Quenton MacHale was the superb leader he was due to Ernest Borgnine serving over a dozen years in the navy prior to and during WW2. He said he based the character on the best of his commanders.

Mind O'Rourke and Schulz would probably be a fun war too.

21eRegt23 Oct 2012 6:28 p.m. PST

Oh I'd love to serve under Major Carter… I'd volunteer again and again. But of the list, Crapgame because I figure that would be the best shot of not only surviving but also ending up wealthy.

epturner23 Oct 2012 7:05 p.m. PST

No, you canna use Dad's Army, it's not allowed on this side of The Big Blue Anti-Tank Ditch. Doomed are ye'

My son is a 2nd Lt. He says Phil Silvers.

abelp0124 Oct 2012 2:51 a.m. PST

O'Rourke, of course.

ChicChocMtdRifles24 Oct 2012 6:50 a.m. PST

O'Rourke--just so long as CPL Agarn was lower rank than me.

"6. Fw Steiner ( cross of iron )"

Given what happens to Steiners platoon I might pass on that one!
