I started fiddling with some rules to convert SDS to the 40K world. It can be found on my blog: link

Sorry, no pictures yet. I am still writing up the battle report and will post that when it is done.

Hi Dale, i like you blog and the article for SDS40K. I have started something similar but used Fear and Faith rules over Flying Lead as they have magic and modern small arms. I have most Song of rules and i tend to find myself using SDS/F&F mixed with SoBH for my games and not use Flying Lead at all. Strange really.
But keep the post rolling, looking forward to see what you come up with.

I have most of the Ganesha rules also. I also tend away from Flying Lead in that it is probably a little more complex than I would like, Especially given the scale I want to play at. I am aiming more for each unit rather than each side being a squad. My next experiment will be could to convert 61 – 65 over. The more I think about it the more I believe that give Ganesha's next World War II game should be based off of 61 – 65, not off of the Song engine.

Coincidentally I played a game of "40K" this weekend. I used my Sisters of Battle versus some "heretics". What I did was to use Flying Lead for the base rules. Then I added special rules from Mutant and Death Ray Guns to bring out the 40k flavor. It worked beautifully.

MDRG has rules for power armor and power weapons. The various mutant psychic powers worked to represent psychers. Various sci-fi grenades are represented. For bolters, I just used Assault Rifle rules.

All in all, five Sisters of Battle at Q4 C3 took out twice their number of Q4 C2 heretics plus their leaders and heavies. Power Armor as given in MDRG is powerful. Plasma and melta guns as well as other weapons have weapons in MDRG that correlate fairly well.

Overall the game played great and felt very 40K to me while retaining all that I love about Ganesha Games.

Any battle report or pictures?

Irongut15 Oct 2012 8:04 p.m. PST

No… sorry. I'm horrible with documenting my experimentation. I will do it again, and I'll try to do a write up and put it up on my blog. I'll share that back in this group when I get to it.

Irongut – I think that is the beauty of the whole "Song of" system it is easy to blend one in to another. I like the idea of 61-65 for WWII, i think that would ive a better game than Flying Lead, let us all know how you handle vehicles.

I would really really love for Ganesha Games to publish the 'space opera' version of their rules, hinted at on their site… If they keep it a bit generic/grim instead of 'starwars' (I'm looking at you 'Blasters and Bulkheads'),It would be great. I like 'In the Emporer's Name' as well, but that is rather universe specific (also rumors of a more 'generic' version of this, but may also be one of those rule sets we will never see).

What Bill the cat said. I think the lack of a dedicated sci-fi set is a big hole in Ganesha's range.

If all things go as planned, we will have 4 SF sets in 2013 (spaceship combat, large scale bug hunting with Khurasan miniatures, generic space opera, giant robots), and new post-apoc one too with Lead Adventure miniatures.

Great news. Cheers.

The working title for the generic SF ruleset is "Harder than Steel" but I'm open to suggestions. No "Song" needed in the title.

Capt Flash21 Oct 2012 6:02 p.m. PST

just get them done, please. No long waits! :-)

billthecat08 Feb 2017 11:38 p.m. PST

Any news on Harder than Steel?

Ganesha Games Sponsoring Member of TMP06 Apr 2017 8:22 a.m. PST

it should be available this summer

billthecat11 Apr 2017 5:42 p.m. PST

Fantastic! Thanks for the response.
Good luck with this and 'Star Eagles'… both fill much needed gaps in currently available rules. I hope to use 'Harder than Steel' when the 'Shadow War Armageddon' bug wears off, or if the new gaming group requires more flexibility. Consider me a spokesperson!
