I'm having a hard time with what I thought would be very easy. In the early 80s 1/285 NATO v WarPac game I'm painting my way towards playing, I want a few West German Polizei and Feuerwehr vehicles thrown in. I am having a hard time finding paints to correctly represent that unique bright mid-green of the police vehicles and a good bright mid-blue for the beacons on both police and fire vehicles. Anyone run into this problem before? What colors did you settle on? Also, any good sources of general 1/285 decals to create "POLIZEI" and "FEUERWEHR"? Thanks guys!! |

I have no idea, but maybe model railroad websites can offer that kind of info; pretty much every large urban model railroad landscape has at least one police and firefighter vehicle, there's gotta be some color info for those, in case someone paints them his or herself ;) |

I did try to buy them already done in Z scale, but no luck finding any, though there are vast numbers of them in HO. Also, GHQ decal sets weren't made with this in mind, so the letter selection provided is quite limited. |

I used Vallejo Deep Green 970 for my Future Wars Polizei Project. My old photos on Flickr are really tiny so would not be much help. link |

The official specification for the green colour of German polizei cars is Minzgrün or 'mint green', RAL colour code 6029. See this site for a sample and more info on this particular colour: link |

RAL paints seem to be available only in large volumes |

The RAL colour is the actual code for the colour used on real polizei vehicles. Click on the 'Search simular colors' (sic) button on the above-mentioned link, and it shows you alternatives to the RAL colour from a number of model paint manufacturers. |

Revell used to put the RAL No on their paints. Many years ago the IPMS did a colour spec listing thousands of military schemes plus some others cross referencing RAL, FS and model paint equivalents. This may be some help although it is aircraft biased link |

Revell 161 Emerald Green or Humbrol 131 Satin Mid Green are the closest matches. Thanks for the help guys! |

Yep, there'll always be someone who can answer even the most esoteric question on TMP! Where else but on TMP could you find, for instance, a New Zealand gamer who can give you the exact paint specs of real-life German polizei vehicles?!?! |

Isn't it wonderful? And there's always some bizarrely marginal question that I find I can answer with ease. Disturbing, really |
