I'm working on an urban gameboard and have the Dapol (ex Airfix) 'Diesel Railbus'. I would like to use this as a streetcar for Berlin or Vienna or Budapest. Does anyone know what colours such vehicles were painted? I know that yellow is quite common today
..Thanks in advance! |

Is this
what we are talking about? If so I remember being told that Berlin had brown and cream but this is hear say rather than real knowledge. I'm asking as my memory of British rail buses which I believe Airfix copied was a completely different animal and not used on city streets x42 |

I have a George Forty book entitled Germany At War In Color. On page 202 there are two streetcar pics, one from Stuttgart and the other from Dresden. The Stuttgart streetcar has what looks like a brown roof, white window area and a dark yellow body. The Dresden streetcar appears to have a dark green roof, off white or cream colored window area and body. What body there is in the wheel area of the Dresden streetcar (mainly the front and real of the car) seems to repeat the roof color. Both street cars seem to have a brownish red thin band just below the window areas. The Dresden car repeats the bank around the entire car just above the wheels. |

In the interest of being complete open about this, while I had the Forty book and had looked at the pictures many times before I painted my streetcars, since I was not doing a specific German city, I used the pics as an idea base and painted my cars with a combination of both. You can see what I did in pics 12, 15, 29, and 43 of my Germany 1945 Gallery at link |

Many thanks War in 15mm!I was hoping for something really bright, but I guess that was wishful thinking on my part. You are right x42, the railbus isn't really a tram or streetcar, but close enough for my purposes
