F-361 – Mini Mech Urban Assault
Fri. 2:00:00 PM, 4 hrs, 6 players
GM: Sean Conlon
SciFi 6mm, Rules: House Rules
Command a platoon of mechs through the concrete canyons of a sprawling city. Mini Mech is a set of house rules designed for simulated combat between companies of tiny mechs and combat walkers. The goal is to create a fun, fast paced, streamlined set of rules that will maintain the flavor of mech combat.

No Full Blown AARs, but here is my Blog with the progress of Mini Mech so far: link

Got any AARs or the like?

cloudcaptain08 Oct 2012 9:27 a.m. PST

Thanks!

Really nice table layout. Simple and perfect for the scale.

Ooh, another excuse to buy gzg's votoms. (I'd include germy's mini mechs in that statement, but I already own those lovely things)

That looks pretty neat.

Never seen mechs that small.

Nice job on the buildings.

Rothgar08 Oct 2012 11:11 a.m. PST

Thanks guys!

That's looking very good.

only one comment on the rules is that the heavy mechs have a combined range and move of 12 hexes, whereas light and mediums have a combined move and range of 11 hexes.
In open terrain this would give the slower heavies an advantage.

Rothgar08 Oct 2012 1:08 p.m. PST

I'll look into that!

Moe the Great08 Oct 2012 6:09 p.m. PST

I look forward to seeing it at Fall In!

I actually think the rules work perfectly as regards the Light/Heavy range and movement rates. A lot of people do not realize that modern tanks can generally move faster than their lighter APC/IFV consorts…and of course their weaponry is heavier and longer-ranged.

In other words, in open terrain, a Heavy-class element *should* outperform a Light-class foe. It is more realistic and may work to naturally avoid the paradigm seen in Battletech where a Light 'Mech can reliably challenge a Heavy or Assault in a duel because of the way movement and ablative armor conspires together.

(and I say this a BattleTech fan since the 80s, not a knock on a good system and milieu).

Here is a cruel enlargement of Hound Dogs done as Fyana and Chirico's mechs.

Rothgar09 Oct 2012 10:06 a.m. PST

Nice Job!

Really nice looking set up. 'What are the urban areas' made from?

Rothgar09 Oct 2012 10:32 a.m. PST

The city blocks are made from 60mm square bases with various wooden craft blocks and pieces glued to them.

Thanks, it's all your fault that i had to go back and paint the three colour lenses on all my mini mechs. Damn you Rothgar you filthy mech pusher you…

:-)

Channeling Chuck you see.

Rothgar09 Oct 2012 1:31 p.m. PST

Not my fault! Blame Jon for making cool minis. Blame FASA for making B-tech.

You got me there. I saw what you did. ;-)

I'm all ready for Fall in! I'll be heading up early Friday morning to get a friend there in time for the Flames of War tourney.

Kato Potato31 Oct 2012 7:06 a.m. PST

Great game. Have had fun with it and Rothgar. He has done a great job!

NOTE: If you are playing this and you dont have mechs a'blazing by turn 3 or so ….you are doing it wrong and should go play something else :)

Kato Potato31 Oct 2012 7:07 a.m. PST
