Since the other WD3 thread is about to fall off the frontpage, I figured I'ld start a new one so people looking for WD3 can get some info – as little as there is. Since several days the Furumer server on which Wargames Directory 3 is supposed to run has been down, and I have no idea how long it will last. Theo the Hobbit has kindly transformed his forum into a WD3 annexe (WD3.1?), so those suffering from withdrawal symptoms can get together. Theo's forum is here: warinthessaloniki.forumgreek.com Like with the original WD3, registration is required to post, but it's free and relatively painless if done right. |

In light of recent WD3 threads and given the attitude of some (most) WD3 members to TMP I can only assume that you and Theo are experimenting with irony. |

I have little or no problems with TMP, Choc. By the way, the editor is a member of WD3. |
Chocolate | 07 Oct 2012 8:51 a.m. PST |
Nope definitely most. By sure to post the irony experiment results when it's finished. I see at the time of writing that the 2 members logged on to Theo's forum are you and Gungnir, and the membership has doubled in the past 2 days, is Theo's forum the new place to hang when committing TMP hate crimes? |
Chocolate | 07 Oct 2012 8:56 a.m. PST |
"By the way, the editor is a member of WD3" Would you like to explain the circumstances around his joining? and I know that you don't have a problem with TMP, but given the stated attitude of most WD3 members to TMP, you would have reached more WD3 members if you'd opened your front door and shouted the message. |

MOST WD3er's didn't have enough of an opinion one way or the other to comment. Out of those that did comment the majority of opinion was annoyance that ex-TMPer's were turning up and using WD3 to grind their axes. If this is the welcome people get here I can see why TMP sharply devides opinion
|
Peewee | 07 Oct 2012 9:27 a.m. PST |
Out of those that have an opinion anyway. ;-) |

It's a bit like this, "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" |

Choc, he joined out of his own free will, I'm sure. WD3 is a forum for people who enjoy our hobby, consider having fun a major part of any hobby. We share tons of good info, methods and tips. Yes, whenever TMP goes through one it's seasonal purges, some flock to WD3, others to Frothers, Lead Adventures, etc. As a WD3 moderator I have often made it clear on WD3 that it was not created just to comment on TMP, but to enjoy our hobby, as said before. Usually those outbreaks follow the above mentioned seasonal purges here, then die a quiet death. Obviously you base your opinion on a noisy few, during exactly those periods. Quite a few WD3 members are a member here too. |

OK, we do sometimes pay a penny and go into Bedlam to laugh at the lunatics, but that's normally just the usual suspects on the Naps boards. Many people here do that as well. |
Peewee | 07 Oct 2012 10:16 a.m. PST |
It may bitterly disappoint you to know that nobody's even mentioned TMP on Theo's forum. |

I'm a (lurker) member of WD3 – if I don't post much there its because I've nothing to say. Got no axes to grind on either WD3 or TMP. |
olicana | 07 Oct 2012 2:31 p.m. PST |
Commenting on TMP is like commenting on Wargames Foundry. It's awfully futile. WD3 and TMP are useful for different things. TMP is useful for getting a wide spectrum of opinion or information VERY quickly. WD3 is a place to find the same, but it is less broad and responses come more slowly. However, WD3's advantage is that you can ask a fair question or proffer an opinion without having to duck the snipers – you can take your tin hat off on WD3, providing you put down your rifle first. |

I think forum-rivalry, if it exists, is largely a waste. Such a small hobby needs a little more mutual support. I should add, if there is some whining at WD3, it isn't encouraged by the mods. |

Never heard of it

We don't have a league table of posters over on WD3 but if we did one of the least prolific would be a chap known as John the OFM. |
Peewee | 08 Oct 2012 3:22 a.m. PST |
There is actually a league table Buff. When WD3 is back up and running (please!?!!) I'll show you how to access it. |

There's a lot of things I've never heard of. I'd tell you what they are but I don't know. ;-) |

Eccles is top poster,I am runner up. No idea when, Peewee, accrding to theo all Forumer servers were down this morning. Probably out of sympathy with poor old #19. |

I know, I saw the help forums. Looks like they've got their work cut out. |

Most members of WD3 seem to also be TMPers, so truly hating TMP would be a form of self hatred, non ? TMP can sometimes be a bit "weird". WD3 doesn't seem to "suffer" the same amount of "you don't think like me so shut up" that can crop up on TMP from time to time. Probably if WD3 had the same size membership then the same issues would start to crop up. |
Gungnir | 08 Oct 2012 5:42 a.m. PST |
True, 20th, small fora where the main occupants all know eachother suffer much less from that attitude. I should add that several WD3 members have gone through the trouble of looking eachother up, getting together at fairs, etc. Mind youu, we've to encounter our first WD3 romance, but the llama is ready and waiting. And making odd panting sounds. |

There is actually a league table Buff. When WD3 is back up and running (please!?!!) I'll show you how to access it. I sm slighty wary about letting Peewee show me anything. All this <little Q > </littleQ> stuff fair takes me back to the good old days before Windows |
Duke of Plaza Toro | 08 Oct 2012 3:15 p.m. PST |
I doubt Chocolate's claims of "most" would stand up for one second against a genuinely representative poll of WD3 members. There are perhaps a handful of WD3'ers who are sometimes very vocal about their feelings towards TMP but I'm quite confident that you will find the vast majority of WD3 members are either quite ambivalent about TMP, or like me – are members of both.
