It's that time of the year again, MOAB is on this weekend so I'll load up the family and head off to Sydney, (via Canberra to pick up my daughter Hayley). It's been about 3 years since I've got to MOAB. This year I'll be playing in a Field of Glory: Napoleonic demo game. I've been asked to provide the French Army of Italy for the Battle of Sacile 1809. Stan will bring along the 1st Division, and I will provide the 2nd, 3rd and 4th French, the Italian Division and the Light Cavalry Division.

Ah so it became a demo rather than a tournament :(

Hope it goes well.

Hopefully the NaW for CANCON makes it :)

Very nice, your photos really lay out how the five divisions look when they are in play.

Interestingly enough, I have been looking at the very same army :-) Looks very nice. Assuming 15/18mm; what manufacturers?

Do you like FoG: N so far? Criticisms and likes so far?
Also, have you played larger games and how well do the rules scale up to the army level (interested in how long a game takes at the army level)?

TA..I will actually try and meet you in person..

Hi.
The miniatures are all AB18mm.
I like the rules very much. They are excellent for Corps level games, where each unit is a Regiment / Brigade.
I have no major critisisms. The rules do require some effort to get to grips fully with. I recommend you simply play a few games and learn that way. Don't expect to get it right straight away.
That said, the rules reward your effort and give a great game.
You can see some thoughts on FoG:N and two AARs on my blog here:

We fought this HUGE game in a tad under 4 hours:

Looks great Scott, marvelous collection of Frenchies. Looking forward to your aar's, particularly the Maurice game as they are always very entertaining. It is good to read view points of the rules from a gamer who has actually played them. thumbs up

What you see here is about a 3rd of my French and Italian Napoleonic 18mm collection.
Most of my Light infantry and all of my Imperial Guard are still in their Boxes.
I have an 1805 French collection of about 2 Corps worth also.
Then there's the Brits, Russians, Prussians and misc Germans / Dutch-Belgians,…

As you have played Lasalle, Napoleon at War and FOGN Trailape which do you prefer? Obviously all have their merits but which one rings your bell and why?

Can you provide a balanced commentary on these systems and why your prefer the one you do? I am fed up with seeing comments like 'I like to play WRG' or 'I haven't played this but…' when people are asked for a review and you seem to have actually played all systems with some relish!

I would value your thoughts.

As you have played Lasalle, Napoleon at War and FOGN Trailape which do you prefer? Obviously all have their merits but which one rings your bell and why?

Good question.
In short I prefer Lasalle over NaW.
FoG:N is at a different 'level' of play, (you're manouver units are Brigades / Regiments / Demi-Brigades where as with Lasalle / NaW you are moving Battalions). Consequently I don't think it's fair to compare FoG:N with Lasalle / NaW.
I will say however I do like FoG:N. I think it gives a very good game in a reasonable amount of time.
I'll have to do a write up on why I prefer Lasalle over NaW at some point and get it up on my Blog.
I guess the attraction with Lasalle is it's elegant simplicity.
I also like the 'look' of the game, (which is pretty important if you are going to the trouble of playing with miniatures rather than counters).
I'll expand on the why's and wherefores soon.
Cheers
Scott
