On 28,29,30 June 2013 the Hall of Heroes, Cambelltown, NSW, will commemorate the battle of Gettysburg on grand scale.

Able commanders, be they wanting to preserve the Union or bring a halt to Federal meddling in Southern affairs, are required to lead troops to glory.

The game will be conducted using the Black Powder rules utilising 24 figure Regiments in 28 mm.

Terrain will be sculpted by the mercurial Matt Reichert. There has been insane ramblings of two 34'x 6' tables.

A sign up sheet is available on request at the front counter of the Hall of Heroes.

Wish I could make it…..sigh….it's a long way from British Columbia.

Thanks Provost!

We held the initial planning conference at the Hall of Heroes on Saturday, and it is no exaggeration that it will be held on a grand scale – the order of battle will be complete with every unit represented (on a 1:20 figure scale!) Over 400 24 figure regiments!

We have decided that the weekend will run as a freeplay battle, rather than attempt to follow the historical course of the battle too slavishly….We will start with the original orbat, at the original locations, with formations arriving in their historical order, but other than that it is all up to play for….

I will add that players do not have to commit to fighting all 3 days – although we may ask that their figures do…

I have already signed on the dotted line to follow Old Glory! May God Preserve the Union!

But now, when Northern treachery attempts our rights to mar,
We hoist on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

Hurrah! Hurrah! For Southern rights hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

I drew up the table plan today. Seriously massive! I will need a bigger store. I negotiated approval today for the planned multi thousand dollar spend with the minister for war and finance. So hurdle one out of the way.

Now for the cutting and drilling, this table will have a sub structure you normally find in a house frame. I am going to work speakers under the ridge line for authentic cannon sounds.

Cheers,
Matt

Wow, wish I could be there, but that weekend, I'll be commanding a division of 1:1 scale figures in Gettysburg itself! :)

Sounds awesome guys.

By jabers Sparker this is going to be a grand event, wonder if I can get a weekend release to come down and soak it all up. Will you be going to the Liepzig event in Adelaide?

I'd love to be there but unfortunately I will be on my way to the real world Gettysburg to watch thousands of crazy Yanks (and assorted other happy loons I assume) re-enact the battle.

I wish I could be there. Unfortunately, I will be a crazy Yank reenacting the battle that weekend.

I'm in. Not sure if I want to be on the side of Law or the side of Chaos though :)

So, next practice game on this Sunday (11th Dec) at HOH. A Fredericksburg scenario – Marye's Heights. Kick Off at 11.00.

Provost03 Dec 2012 8:08 p.m. PST

I am sure Sparker actually means the 9th Dec.

Now the damned Federals are trying to institute their own calendar.

Sparker03 Dec 2012 11:46 p.m. PST

Thanks mate! I do indeed mean this Sunday the 9th December!

D'Oh!

I'm keen to participate. I'm working on a corp size collection of Rebs for Black Powder, but I need to scope how long it's going to take to get it all ready before I commit.

Provost06 Dec 2012 3:30 p.m. PST

Come along on Sunday anyway McWong. We will take anything from a Regiment up so it wont be necessary for you to have an entire Corps on the day.

Sparker15 Dec 2012 1:09 a.m. PST

Well no photos to protect the innocent but needless to say the refight of Marye's Heights was bloody and ineffectual, (at least from the Dark Blue perspective, I daresay the grey chaps had a high old time of it!)

The interesting thing was that, with relatively few tweaks to the essence of Black Powder, the Union forces ended up at exactly the same 'high tide' as the original battle, launching costly wave attacks on the stone wall and sunken road, but never actually 'moving Field Marshall Haig's drinks cabinet' a foot closer to the enemy, as it were…

So we must be doing something right, and, as I said to my fellow defeated Union players, at least we looked smart and died in nice neat lines….

Now this is something I rarely say, but we could have really done with some sappers to properly bridge that dammed canal for us…

Wow. 400 24 figure regiments. Outstanding!

uglyfatbloke31 Jan 2013 9:25 a.m. PST

Can't wait to see the pictures – we'd love to come along and bring 1000+ figures for each side, but I think that might be a bit of trial…I suppose it's about 10,000 miles or so.
