It's the attitude that needs to be fixed. Errata, QC, etc are all good steps…but it's really the tone that was a breaking point for so many.

BF needs to figure out how to be a company of gamers for gamers again and much of that has more to do with what they say and how they say it.

True Von Burge, you and I are far from alone in disliking the arragont tone of some of the recent BF announcements

What amazes me is that there are still a sizeable number of gamers that just nod and go yeah well they DID make WWII popular again so………….I guess they can say that

Deadone01 Oct 2012 7:58 p.m. PST

TT, it's a very interesting observation on humanity and you see it in everything from music to politics.

Poniatowski02 Oct 2012 10:27 a.m. PST

@THobbes….
You are probably correct on the lowering of points in more current books/releases. It is a sad fact that occurs in CCGs and other miniature points based games…
"more for less" to keep players buying…. all the while, raising the price. That is just standard business practice though….

I didn't look at it that way because my math on stuff from Mid-War seemed to work out of availability, not power escalation. Hmm, back to the math board.

Well they're starting to really clamp down on anti-BF sentiment on their forum.

The thread on special rules was shut down while other posts relating to this issue have been moderated.

(Stolen Name)03 Oct 2012 2:37 a.m. PST

The basic issue is J-P is Deleted by Moderator with the "we cannot fix it in 3 months" – they had at least 18 mths lead time plus 8 months since its release when they were drafting V3 – the truth is they just thought we would wear it as good 'FOW Hobbyists' and cough up another $300 USD for the 3rd reprint in as many years of all the army lists

Deadone03 Oct 2012 4:32 a.m. PST

Totally agree TT.

Look at the basic LW lists – Festung Europa, Fortress Europe, Forces and Grey Wolf (has most common German and Russian lists).

MW is now getting ready for a third batch of books in something like 4 years to "bring them up to date".

jameshammyhamilton03 Oct 2012 6:27 a.m. PST

Despite being a regular FoW player I honestly cannot see me buying any more FoW briefing books in the near future. I was so sick of the churn of books that I have actually sold all my FoW briefing books.

VonBurge03 Oct 2012 6:48 a.m. PST

It's easier to keep "up to date" with EasyArmy anyway.

I must admit I do to a certain extent understand JP's reasoning, but I don't think that he's done BF any favours with the way that he has but the info across, especially with what reads like a threat as far as the forum is concerned.

If it had been pitched along the lines of 'ok, we know there are problems and we'll do our best to rectify them and look at some way of getting updates out' then it may have been received better.

Personally, I stopped playing FOW 2 or 3 years ago as in my mind it started to get silly with all the special rules and rules lawyers that were turning up! It does seem to have got worse, I mean Easy Company for crying out loud!, talk about milking WWII for all it's worth.

I was hoping that the v3 rules and Barbarossa would tempt me to start playing FOW again, but with all the furor I probably won't bother and just stick with BKCII

Wolfprophet04 Oct 2012 8:30 p.m. PST

Meh. Play scenario based games and ignore points. Solves the entire problem.

DrDeeNZ03 Dec 2012 7:21 p.m. PST

7 years in the studio, was like being in an episode of "the Simple Life"….
Studio usually hears these sorts of things the same time as the public so don't hate on them.

(Stolen Name)03 Dec 2012 8:55 p.m. PST

Hahaha which one is Paris and which one is Nicole?

Paveway03 Dec 2012 11:43 p.m. PST

Yeah, my years in the studio have that feel about them as well Dee.
Not sure anything has changed either.

Woolshed Wargamer04 Dec 2012 11:48 a.m. PST

I get around all that by only playing flames of war with the original rule set and lists that came out ten years ago. Or some other set of rules. Mostly the models are pretty good.

DrDeeNZ04 Dec 2012 2:16 p.m. PST

"Hahaha which one is Paris and which one is Nicole?"

Its not as funny as you think, what is funny is how accurate stereotyping can be sometimes, especially in regards to the "Paris's" of the world.

"Yeah, my years in the studio have that feel about them as well Dee.
Not sure anything has changed either."

It never will, it is a haven for ex-GW staff who have 'earned' the right to retire into BF management positions while claiming to have invented every aspect of our 'hobby', while the studio takes all the grief and produces all the content.

AgustinSantos20 Dec 2012 8:42 p.m. PST

At a local store I got in some 15mm PSC soviet infantry, heavy weapon teams and some anti-tank weapons. I plan on using them for whatever rules set I feel like (I have IABSM). A buddy of mine who organizes FoW events pointed out I had a lot of points for FoW soviets. We played a test game but I didn't like the turn structure where one person does everything while the other person waits.

I also found figuring out what book(s) to buy to be bewildering.

The "we will maintain the status quo and if you complain too much, we'll shut down the forums"attitude definitely puts FoW back on my list of things not to pay attention to.
