I'd like to paint some wehrmacht pioneers or panzer pioneers for Stalingrad. Is it the case that the only difference between their uniforms and that of infantry is the color of the piping on the shoulder strap? And it should be black regardless of whether they are pioneers or panzer pioneers?

Thanks

Just plain field gray with black piped shoulder boards.

Yes, black waffenfarbe for both.

Some engineers used different field equipment (big engineer pouches rather than standard ammo pouches), but engineer figures are usually loaded down with wire cutters, mines etc so are fairly easy to id.

One of the Pioniere type units had their shoulder straps piped in a white and black braid. Can't remember which right now.
